Its is too bad this band never got the recognition they deserved. Probably the first all women hard rock band that played their instruments and wrote their songs just as good if not better than most all male rock bands of the time, late 60s and early 70s. Give FANNY Credit were it's due!!!

+1!

I had "Charity Ball" (on vinyl) and it was loaded with great tuneage. They had a solid fan base in selected areas but I just don't think Fanny was managed or marketed correctly. They were pioneers though, and very good ones.

Totally agree with you. Hope they will be recognized enough soon to earn a Rock Roll Hall of Fame that they deserve.

I've read an article about their guitarist in Vintage Guitar (I do believe that was the magazine) a while back.

Fanny were great live, saw them open for Jethro Tull in the fall of 1974. A treat to see and hear.

Never heard of them before, liked it though.

And what an adorable bass player I might add... :D

Hadn't heard them in a long time ... thanks for the post.

A quick look shows that they did fairly well but unfortunately aren't remembered. They remained active for a long time and guitarist June still records and works with youth groups and young girls in specific. I can only guess that they never quite found a niche, though they played all over at the time. Too straight ahead rock to be a cutesy girl-pop band, not radical enough to be a grrl band, videos show they didn't at all emphasize sexuality and for pure rock, they were competing against groups like the Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc. and just came up short.

Lessons learned I guess -- that's why agents today sexualize even great artists like Dianna Krall and Joyce Cooling. Sad to say, but it helps sell albums and fill venues.
