so for playing open mics and stuff I kind of need to get an electric-acoustic guitar going. was thinking of using something I have and adding the electronics... then I had the idea of adding a built in reverb unit... so just plug and play. found this on ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PT2399-Micropho ... 2307934900

would this work? draw power off preamp? any thoughts?

Thanks!

Not being an electronics specialist I can't comment on the viability of it but I do suspect it would be two things: tricky to install and integrate into your existing preamp as well as being that much harder on your battery life.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Thanks! I realized that about the batteries, but I figured I could get rechargeables. I'm not going to be using it that much and if I put a freshly charged one at the beginning of a gig I'd imagine it would be fine. I'm pretty handy and not worried about doing this... was also thinking of working with a cheap-a** acoustic... either a $50 new Rogue or manybe used Fender FA-100 for about the same price... no risk. Using cheap parts from ebay/China it's more DIY fun... but my guess is that once it's electric and with added reverb, the cheap guitar can be hacked to sound pretty good... or at least *unique*! (It kind of fills the same niche as shooting "toy cameras" when I have plenty of *quality* photographic gear!) :)

Anyway, I ordered the reverb board and a Fishman pre-amp/pickup... when they finally get here going by slow boat, I figure out what kind of project they'll end up in. In the meantime, I just got a fantastic deal on a used Yamaha FGX700SC guitar ($175 w/proper hardcase)... so I'll have something to play for now.

Best!
