Looks like there is a new CEO and a corporate move back to Southern California.

Thanks for posting WTS. At this point a clear and thoughtful discussion about marketing advertising product development / placement buyer growth and participation might be helpful. I'm not too sure the people we love that work for the company we love would listen to any of us. Why do I think this? Fender has made some costly moves in the past year or so that may or may not work. An example would be the only real competition Gibson is raising prices always without losing market share. Not because Gibson manufactures a better instrument. There are reasons, perhaps some day we can discuss them and the other product concerns. 8)

Don't know man.... Looks like Mooney is jumping into $$$$ commercializing Fender to the masses and that always means crappy product. Look what happen when CBS bought out Fender. Mooney is really spelled Money...

Well, I for one would prefer to look at it this way. What came first the musician or the guitar, and what will be the last to remain? I believe the answer is there somewhere.

Good thoughts bad thoughts

Travel like a king
Listen to the inner voice
A higher wisdom is at work for you
Conquering the stumbling blocks come easier
When the conqueror is in tune with the infinite
Every ending is a new beginning
Life is an endless unfoldment
Change your mind, and you change your relation to time

You can find the answer
The solution lies within the problem
The answer is in every question

Dig it?
An attitude is all you need to rise and walk away
Inspire yourself
Your life is yours
It fits you like your skin

The oak sleeps in the acorn
The giant sequoia tree sleeps in its tiny seed
The bird waits in the egg
God waits for his unfoldment in man
Fly on, children
Play on

You gravitate to that which you secretly love most
You meet in life the exact reproduction of your own thoughts
There is no chance, coincidence or accident
In a world ruled by law and divine order
You rise as high as your dominant aspiration
You descend to the level of your lowest concept of your self
Free your mind and your $@! will follow

The infinite intelligence within you knows the answers
Its nature is to respond to your thoughts

Be careful of the thought-seeds you plant in the garden of your mind
For seeds grow after their kind

Play on, children

Every thought felt as true
Or allowed to be accepted as true by your conscious mind
Takes roots in your subconscious
Blossoms sooner or later into an act
And bears its own fruit
Good thoughts bring forth good fruit
Bullshit thoughts rot your meat
Think right, and you can fly
The kingdom of heaven is within
Free your mind, and your $@! will follow

Play on, children
Sing on, lady

Thank you Eddies Mom.

In Leo Fender's case, it was the Musicians who came first. It was through Leo's Musician friends that went to him with ideas and Leo acted on it. Leo always thought of the musicians first.

It's neither a new CEO nor a move.
Mooney has been the CEO for well over a year now.
The L.A. offices are new, and the headquarters remain in Scottsdale, AZ.
That Mooney refused to move to Scottsdale may be a reason why they opened an office there, so he works in less of a vacuum.

Great post, SBLS.

Bluesguitar65, valid point. Think of it this way. In the earliest time, many believe, the drum was one of, if not the first, instrument. Well, that's a bit of a long shot since what one called a drum then could be argumentative now. Having said that, percussion may be more to the fact. A stick may have accompanied a rock, a log, or simply another stick.

Until someone struck the two together with intention to make a pattern of rhythmic sounds, the tools were not an instrument. They remained a rock, a log, and sticks per se.

Ah, but ancient man became a musician and thus created the instrument regardless of who had their hand in the making of the tools needed to make a sound known as music.

Should the day come when man and woman turn away from a specific tool, never to return, or to move on to a new musical instrument, actual or virtual, then yesterday's instrument will no longer be considered an instrument . . . it will return to being a piece of wood, plastic, metal or what have you. It might end up in the art gallery or the junkyard.

We have seen, however, the potential to restore the old. The irony is, to some, that old IS new. Embracing the new is difficult at times. Sometimes new is successful. and sometimes it is a failure. One thing for sure, new will always become old. The same can be said for musicians and music. That doesn't mean they aren't likeable, popular, and valid for today.

80 bpm will always be 80 bpm, Auto-Tune will always be Auto-Tune, and so on. Stomp boxes will be replaced. Keyboards will change. and just like skins, cymbals, and electronics have supplemented that old log of early times, guitars will continue to evolve. Acoustics are always going to present that luxury of portability. None of this matters without a musician any more than lyrics having an audience without a song writer to create the words.

So musical creation begins, changes, and ends, only to begin again and again.

It's a world that Fender's Andy Mooney and others are living in, and it is full of mystery and amazement. Such are the wonders of music with its creators and instruments.

In the end whether you choose to have a modern or traditional instrument, or not, "It don't mean a thing if you ain't got that swing".

Here's an example of a song that has a constant beat, but it sounds like the beat is accelerating (what's known as a Risset's rhythm auditory illusion):

"Mooney’s strategy is to find ways for Fender to stay true to the spirit of its history without being stifled by it."

Nobody but Leo himself has ever been able to pull that rabbit from a hat and the new CEO will fare no better.

Every captain to ever skipper FMIC's wheelhouse from Bill Shultz forward committed himself to the concept of transforming Fender into a jack of all trades to the point that it's now a master of none.

I apologize for this post. My lack of knowledge about running a corporation finally hit me looking at it for a fourth time. Looking at his history of success, I should have taken a long moment before posting. This fellow deserves my support and encouragement. Andy, thank you for being with Fender and do what you do best, lead this company to success.
