SRV's Little Wing, Lenny, and I hate to toot my own horn, but I wrote a pretty darn good instrumental song in DADGAD, called "40 Days and 40 Nights." :D

DADGAD !! Is that as difficult to play as people say?

Do you have the tune recorded and posted somewhere?

I really enjoy Manhattan by eric johnson.
I also like Scuttle Buttin by SRV.

Speaking of instrumentals, that's what I play! Check out my page, I use fender gear all over my recordings.

I'm quite fond of "Nottingham Lace" and "Soothsayer" by Buckethead. Little Wing is also up there.

BB King, King of Guitar is a great instrumental song.

Jeff Beck, Freeway Jam is pretty cool.

Wipeout, the Surfaris

Oh yeah, the jazz/fusion genre is loaded with amazing instrumentals. Pat Metheny anyone?

Yup. I'd pick Change Of Heart from Pat's album Question & Answer.

Great one - first song I ever played in front of a paying audience.

Meanwhile, how about Sleep Walk (Santo & Johnny).

I have to agree with mordux & JSJH & anyone else who mentioned the Ventures, as they 'set the standard' for all guitar instrumentals, BUT...... I'd have to go with the point of 'Jaw-Drop' here and name a song that was later attempted by Emerson, Lake & Palmer (IMHO, their keyboard rendition was a butcher job.) The tune is from the Nutcracker Suite..... the Ventures named it NUTTY..... and I have a version that I recorded which is posted on purevolume.com IF you want to check it out. (BTW: it's 214bpm) > The reason I chose this tune as #1 on my list is because ALL of the guitar parts are jaw-droppers, not just the lead work. <

At purevolume.com, Simply use SEARCH and enter: Aaron Archelli Band

My version is the first of 4 posted tunes and I call it "Totally Nutz". You might also enjoy #2 & 3, (& recognize them under other original titles) but I do recommend #4..... Uno Front Lamp; MY version of "One Headlight". I just HAD to do it as an instrumental so that the great guitar work in the background could be featured up front. I hope you enjoy them all. As the album title says, we ALL must give HOMAGE & 'Play Our Dues' to those who came before us, giving us the inspiration to set new standards for others in the future, helping to keep guitar as the King of Instruments!
