We measure our time by the mileposts of our lives. That band of '27' is fast becoming an orchestra.

He's in my group of 'wish I had that voice' vocalists. Just to give you an idea, Bob Seeger's another one.

+1

I remember seeing him with Joe Cocker at the Fillmore East in early '69. They opened for Jefferson Airplane. What a great show!

Leon Russell was quite a showman and what a voice. His contributions to the music industry were par excellent. I remember seeing him in concert in Missoula, Montana in like 1974. He was late for the concert and showed up at the front door in his limo where the ticket counters were at. I was standing by the door and opened it for him as he whisked his girlfriend through, looking to see how he could somehow get back stage. She was wearing a flowing fur coat, and his hair and beard set off his piercing eyes, as he smiled at me with a look like, "Ya, I know, I am at the wrong door but I really don't know where to go!" He just played again in Missoula, at the Wilma Theater August 9, 2016.

One memorial song he did in that concert in the 1970s was performing It's a Beautiful Day's song White Bird. He had someone playing smoking violin. Right at the climax of the concert, he jumped up on his black grand piano with a black Les Paul Custom and started to solo. Right then his cord shorted out. In frustration, he threw the guitar while still standing on the piano and one of the stage hands barely caught it. One of those concerts in the 1970s one never forgets!

Tulsa Okie Leon Russell (aka Claude Russell Bridges and "The Master Of Space and Time") was a legendary singer, songwriter, producer, and musician known for his massive association and contributions with Sinatra, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, Elton, Edgar, Willie, and many others including Jerry Lee Lewis. Much of this came from his keyboardist position with the Wrecking Crew, and touring with other artists. He also played guitar and bass. (With Phil Spector) Leon created the famous Wall Of Sound.

This multiple Hall Of Famer and Grammy winner was 74 and
on the mend from recent heart surgery.

His last concert was July 10 in Nashville.

Condolences to his wife Jan Bridges, family, and friends.
