I have a guitar body that to me looks like a Fender. Is it and if yes, what year is it or how can I tell what year it is? I have some Fender necks if so, hoping one may match it.

I promise I won't post any other items on here today but would like to post this in the proper forum if it is a Fender. :D

Why don't you try helping out for a change?

Hi, thanks. Looks kinda old to me but seems to be in too good of shape to be too old so I dunno. I actually posted this body on a forum years ago and was told that they didn't know what it was but that it wasn't a Fender. I ran across it today and pulled it out of the basement and got to looking up everything I knew to lookup online and kept seeing 50's style Fenders but I couldn't be that lucky although I did find a Fender January 13th 1968 B neck down there in what I would think was way above average condition that brought me good fortune. :D

Hi again, hopefully if I keep learning from you all, I'll eventually be able to help out... Maybe for now my posts & pics will bring some knowledgeable folks to the forum that can help out.

It's really no biggy, just thought I'd post it here to see if anyone knew right off what it was.

One-ply bakelite pickguard is cool.
The two huge screws on top of it, not so much. That probably warrants some minor repairs to the screw holes.

My main concern here is that it has a micro-tilt plate. That doesn't jive with it being vintage, with flat-head screws and one-ply and such.
And that it doesn't have a date stamp. Those could be missing from earlier models, but then you wouldn't have a micro-tilt plate either, I would think.

What are the pickups and electronics like?

It looks like a genuine body - what do you find markings wise under the scratchplate?
The screws and fixings around the scratchplate are quite bizarre.
I reckon the body is from around 1988.

Folks, I haven't opened up the front. I will either tonight or tomorrow though for sure and update the thread ASAP.

I opened it and going over now to upload the photos. Had a hard time getting it opened enough for pictures. Wires are short.

That's a Custom Shop Texas Special neck pickup in the top shot.
Were the pickups changed? I'm asking because the pole pieces are shiny, and alnico pickups tend to go grey and dull after just a few years.

I'd love to know exactly what it is.. Unfortunately I do not know if the pickups were ever changed because it was my dads and he's passed away. If it's actually an original custom shop, I looked it up and from what I see it opened in 1987.

I looked around tonight and only have one Fender neck left and it was in the same box as the body. It looks like it's a 1987. Looks like it says 6 87 on the end of the neck with Sperzel tuners and a metal nut, it's maple with E and 6 digits and says Stratocaster Made in USA but it doesn't say custom shop anywhere on the neck. On the back lower part of the neck there's a white sticker that says what looks like DENNYS and an initial I can't read.

I'll try to post some pictures of the neck. PhotoBucket is saying it's down for maintenance so I'll have to post them later.

Your very welcome (Thanks for having me around) and here's some more... I'm having laptop issues, for whatever reason it doesn't play well with photobucket.

The serial number on the front of the headstock will tell you the year. And, yes it is a Strat of some sort.
