go find a person who can play bass, a person who can play drums, a person who can play keyboards, and mabye another guitarist, buy a bunch of amps, learn songs together, put ads in the newspaper or whatever, start playing in small local areas like schools and such, get noticed by a big exsecutive from a major record company, put out a CD become world famous, live in wealth and fame for your life, get a hot wife, die peacefuly in your warm bed with your strat in your hands.

The first thing you need in a band is someone you know and then build on that. But get good vocals.

Its hard to find someone who can sing good (or at least its hard to find a good singer who is friendly).

Its also really hard to find a drummer. :(

Local music stores are a good source of meeting players not the big corporate owned ones but the individualy own places that have been around years. One near me has a open mic night every few weeks and occassional come all jams. Another near me has something every week from artist shows to instrument reps and so on but they try to have somthing weekly.

Yeah, that's exactly how I did it. But after years of touring, and having to dodge the women, who always managed to find a way to jump on stage, reporters and paparazzi chasing me, I decided to quit, and go on to live in an anonymous lifestyle. I'm much happier now.

A good friend of mine and I, have been playing guitar together for about 4 years now. He's a very good lead guitar player (I back him on on rhythm guitar) and has really wanted to form a band. Last year, we got together with a very good bass player and drummer and played together as a jam band. After a while, the bass player had to move out of town for work (contractor), and the drummer moved onto another band.

In the last few months, we've been trying to get bass players and drummers together. At first people seem interested, but when it comes down to making a commitment, they often flake out. So it seems to be a work in progress. All one can do is keep trying until you find the right group of people who love playing together.

When I was a drummer, I played in a number of bands. Back then, it didn't seem hard at all. I always knew several bands who wanted me to play with them, if something happened to the current band I was involved with. I just think it's all a matter of luck, and if you're connected to other musicians.

Don't give up....keep looking and trying.......And I"m sure it'll all come together for you.

Check out the local jams and meet some other musicians who know of even more musicians, etc..

Is this your area ?

im a good guitarist now and ive learnt quite a few songs and im also trying to put together a band but i have the same problem. i live in this stupid rich folk community that ill the rich snobby preppy kids play there 5000 dollar guitar through amps that cost just as much. and the worst part is they all play guitar there is practicly no drummers or bassist around, and because theres so many people playing guitar to be cool not cause it's something they really love all the drummers and bassist that are around are already taken. and the town has like a city plannign community that has made some law thing that att all the places where people under 21 are actually able to play gig (and there arent that many) have to have the amps and stuff turned off by 10:45  it sucks!
