I am not a fan of any Seymour Duncan pickups.

i own every p-bass type that they make, and i love em. i have female to male disconnects installed on my pickup leads in my baby so if i ever get tired of a certain sound i just swap them right out. i have one gripe though, the duncan antiquity's are garbage. the signal is realy weak and for some reason it doesnt "pick up" evenly across all four magnets so its a real pain in the $@! to get the sound nice and even across the pickup. dont waste your money on these, go with the fender 62's if your lookin for a vintage sound.

^ I disagree, I swear by all their P pups.

I have a set of 1/4 lbs. and a set of the Anitquities with the raised a's...which sound nothing like the Fender 62's for obvious reasons. The raised a pups are hotter (as they should be). As far as sounding a bit thin you must have tried the Antiquities wihtout the raised a...which model's the 59' pup...which is how that should sound, try out a CS 59', youll know what I mean. (less fat bottom then the 60's less mid-cut then the 57' style, a great sound if you know how to use it however.) The Antiquity II P pup is the 60's P model, and sounds about as close to the original as you'll get.

As far as the SD AII, or the Fender CS 62' I'd say either is an amazing pup, but I prefer Duncan's, though not the 60's P tone. I'd probably use Fender replacements if they offered their 57' Raised A, or their CS 59' as a replacement along with the 62', as I prefer the 50's P tone.

Yes, it does have one and alot more then you might think.

You may be right though, you may have gotten a bad set of pups...it happens no matter who's pups you buy.

However, as I pointed out, if you had the first series antiquity without the raised a's then it would have a thinner sound. Definitely, nothing like the 62' or the Antiquity II..which ironically it shares most of the same specs as. However, as it's meant to model the late 58' -59' pup it would sound thin in comparison with the 60's series pup. So if that was your problem with the pup, then it may just be a matter of preference. Alot of people consider the 60's P tone to be the "vintage" sound. Every Antiquity I've ever heard nailed the tone it was designed to hit pretty much dead on.

I have a Duncan JB in the bridge position on one of my Strats that gets a lot of nice pinch harmonics and overtones that I like.

I really like the Fat 50s and CS69s and Texas Specials too.

no its not the sound nor the level of the pickup that i didnt like. as i originally said, the signal is realy weak and for some reason it doesnt "pick up" evenly across all four magnets so its a real pain in the $@! to get the sound nice and even across the pickup. it isnt the raised A's though.

I have a hot rails pup in the bridge position of my Am Std Strat. It sounds amazing when distorted, but you lose that nice bright, clear, trebly tone of a single coil. Still, I love the overdriven tone of the hot rails and it really makes my guitar sing when I'm playing heavy in a band.
