My guitar is an American Stratocaster, but I already have feelings of "infidelity" because I handled a Telecaster a couple of months ago and fell in love with it. When I get another guitar it will be a Telecaster. I've tried a lot of guitars at Guitar Center, and the Telecaster is the only one that left a deep impression on me.

Everyone has a #1 and hey at least yours is still a Fender.

some poor souls go down a darker road.

Really I love Teles and Strats but a strat just feel right to me.

I am really thinking about a VG just to have a Tele sound and not give up the Strat feel.

I think that if its american and its a fender then it doesn't matter what you get as long as you enjoy it.

My other guitar, which I use a lot less than the Strat, is a Variax. It has a number of different guitar sounds. I really like it, but prefer the Fender because it feels right and does what I want to do with a guitar.

I would encourage you to explore the modeling guitars if you can afford one. Each option uses a different approach. The options I'm aware of are:

1) Variax - an entire guitar with active circuitry. Just plug it in and use a selector to pick the guitar model you want. Requires adjusting amp to get the most out of each model. Runs on batteries or on an external power supply that comes with the Guitar. It's an entire package deal that is appealing to me. Has optional workbench software that allows you to develop your own custom models. Quality of the guitars themselves isn't as nice as the quality of the Fenders. Quality of the sounds is remarkably good if you take the time to treat each model as if it were a guitar unto itself. Depending on your amp settings, the sound can be rather dull or some say "dead". But with the right amp settings most of the models sound really great. I imagine this would apply to the other two options as well. Feels like a Strat with a higher fretboard radius.

2) Roland VG-99. External circuitry that you can plug your existing guitar into. Does about the same as the Variax but the software is supposedly more sophisticated. You can use your Strat to model a Les Paul, for example.

3) Fender VG Strat. A subset of the VG-99 circuitry built into a guitar. This is the most expensive option. If I were a stage performer I'd probably prefer this one.

As a practical matter I like guitar solutions. It's nice to be able to pick up the guitar, plug in a headphone amp, and not be encumbered by an external device. But intellectually I like the Roland VG-99 concept because it allows me to plug in my favorite guitar and change the way it sounds.

LOL.

More like as long as you enjoy it thats all that matters. Who cares if its a MIA, a MIM, a MIJ, fender or not, whatever, as long as you enjoy playing it! No need for elitism.

it is a shame how over shadowed the tele is by the strat. I am a tele man through and through, if i have to play somthing else it is a strat,, but i am starting to notice more and more people going to the tele, and that my friends is awesome!!

If I were you I would take the Strat out to dinner someplace very public when you break the news about the Tele. j/k Play whatever guitar you love. Unlike wives it's legal to have more than one.

And oppositely, the more vintage the guitar become the more valuable it becomes.

Of course I could rhapsodize about the Stratocaster too. It's just so good. With today's amplifiers I can get just about any guitar sound I want out of it. It's just amazing. (But that doesn't keep me from wanting a Tele.)

Guitars are friends, pals, pets, companions, vehicles for spiritual and musical growth, dates.

Good to have more than a couple, all totalled up.

Someone said it before; there is no substitute for a Tele when your soul craves to play a Tele.

Nothing wrong with owning both. I have 2 American Strats, an American Tele, and 3 different Fender amps. I also have Gibson SG Standard. I like each guitar for different reasons, and have spent a number of years acquiring them. My favorite to play will always be the Strat, favorite clean sound is the Tele, favorite distorted sound the SG. I hope I never have to give up any of them. They are like old friends.
