If you have a problem with the password changes, contact Brad. I had some issues that Brad cleared up for me, and mentioned if any one has any issues, get in touch with him. He really went above, and beyond to help me out. Image

Haven't even had to log in again.
The only difference I see are the top banner pictures.

Much ado about nothing.

All working fine from this end on 3 mobile devices. Still need to try from desktop PC.

This was a good scenario to revise passwords.

Perhaps Fender can now get back to working on their other software endeavors.

Worked well for me and I got to reset my password back to my original password after receiving the initial password provided by Fender by email.

Thumbs up! :D

I had a little bit of a pain in the arse at first, but everything seems to be working fine with that now.

I would not recommend this. If they forced you to change the password, there was likely a reason, like it falling to a simple crack scan, or being compromised through a site break-in.
Setting it to the original password then defeats that reason.

I wouldn't recommend Fender sending an initial password through plain-text Internet e-mail either. If Fender did that, it's just BAD security practice. Unless someone manually created passwords one at a time and typed them in both in the site and the e-mail, this indicates that Fender stores plain text passwords and not hashes. That's very bad, and attracts hackers like dogs attract flies. That this is initial passwords does not make it okay. People go on vacation or otherwise let e-mail sit in their box for a while. And it's still indicative of Fender knowing what the user plain text passwords are, which is a hacker magnet.

A one-time time-limited unique link to a secure site where users set the password and a hash is stored is standard practice these days. The better sites uses a double-hash approach, where the client submits a partial hash through javascript to the login, who then salts and hashes the hash. The plain text password then never leaves the client - even if the site is penetrated and someone brute-forces all the passwords, all they're left with are partial hashes only valid for that one site, even if people re-use their passwords elsewhere.

But even if not going that far, at least don't send e-mails, initial or not, containing plain text passwords. Even initial ones.
This is an F grade for whoever thought it was a good idea.

It took a few minutes to figure it out, but I did, after I had emailed Brad, but, before he got back to me. It seems quirky, since there's a separate login for my Fender website account. I had thought they were linked. All is good, again.

The trouble with the first new era sign in is multiply compensated with the "new" (= reissue) login with username instead of email-address. Thanks to whoever made the decision.
(I kept on and on and on autotyping my email password, which of course is not the same as my forum password.)

Like some others, I have not had to log in. The system has not booted me out. The only changes I see are graphics.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Changed my password and logged in lickety split, no issues at all.

...but that could just as well mean even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then anyways...
