Marty, find an Orthopedic Surgeon who specializes in fingers. Set a time when all you have is time to devote to yourself and whoever is your caregiver. You're going to need to be cleared with the usual protocols such as EKG, BLOOD WORK and Chest X-ray. And truly if you're in as much pain as I then do it so they can schedule it as soon as possible. Good Luck...

Thanks so much for sharing your experience BigV1957. You've given me a lot of insight into trigger finger. Maybe my PCP wasn't pushing me too much after all. I wish you fast healing and full recovery. :)

Yeah that's no joke for sure. Looks like your skin is healing up nicely with no infection to complicate matters. Well that's great, the worst is behind you. I know rehab is no fun but you're on the mend!

Take it slow, don't push to hard and you'll be G2G in no time. The hard part is over.

Youch! That's a tough one and you are a tough one, BigV1957. I hope mine never gets to that point. I don't envy you. My trigger finger is pretty intermittent where I had that crappy lockup pain (a lot for awhile), and, luckily almost never now. I don't know why that is except I'm more conscious of the problem, and I take more care to not overwork my hand which i can now do in retirement.

With that said, I wish you great results ahead, and thanks for the posting and photos.

BigV1957. How's the battle going? Is that guitar getting closer to being fondled and/or are you in the exercise stage?

Image Well here's the finished product. This is a procedure and not spoke of as a surgery. If that's true I really don't think I'll have another procedure. I've been released by the Surgeon so it's now up to me. Thank you for all your well wishes. I'll let you know when I'm back on a guitar...

Lookin' good, BigV1957. Still looks sore though. Thanks, for the pictures. Great selection of guitars. No wonder you can't wait to get back to playing.

Just a quick question. Prior to your procedure did you feel the tendon raised (protruding) along the palm of your hand? Mine is pretty prominent. Fortunately, I haven't had a lot of problems for some time, more of an irritation and less locking, but the hand doesn't get used as much as it does in Summer.

Many years ago, I met a fella that accidentally had his cheek sliced from a hockey game just before he showed up at a party. Thanks, to him he told me of using vitamin E in a bottle to help heal and reduce scarring. It comes clear in a small bottle, the consistency of honey, and it seems to last forever. It works. It appears to reduce minimal pain, although, I wouldn't swear by it for pain relief. It definitely lubricates and is healthy. I don't know if you can use it now or later; but, there ya go. It's a standard affair here in the home.

Take care, BigV1957.

I did not have any protruding, however they did shave down the sheath of my two tendons during surgery. I have used a VITAMIN E stick to assist in the healing process of anything that has been cut and it works well with a mimimum of scarring. I have to BEND MY FINGERS BACK 4-6 daily as therapy. Two weeks from now I can start squeezing a ball. Thanks Everyone for Caring...

FSB, this version is a little different than standard trigger finger. My stepfather just had a procedure done to fix his issue(same as yours) raised tendons along the palm from wrist to finger joint. It required some freezing and crushing of built up Calcium along the length of the tendons and injections to fix the issue. He recovered very quickly from the procedure(he's in his mid 70's).

BigV, glad to here your recovering.

Use of Vitamin E as an emollient is seconded as a safe and useful way to soften scars. Just don't get any into wounds, or it can cause bleeding - wait until healing has started.

A bucket of dry sand is also something I recommend for rebuilding hand strength. Unlike hand strengthening gizmos, it won't give you any more resistance than what you give. You can be as light as you need to.

Thanks, for the elaboration gang. I'll pass on the procedure until necessary. Hopefully that won't come; but, it is good to know, and may come to be. One never knows. Only the Shadow knows for sure. 8)
