My '61 Les Paul/SG Reissue was a fine guitar with some great tone, a thin neck to die for...but I never was able to bond with it. The body was just too thin to feel comfortable when playing. So I threw it up on CL to see if there was any interest. Well I got a call almost straight away. The guitar below piqued my interest as something a bit different. It is lighter than I expected and the Burstbuckers tone is very soulful. It certainly sounds more Les Paul than anything and I am digging it. I had heard of the Gibson Midtowns, but had never seen one or had the chance to play one. After getting that chance I can honestly say I loved it enough to swap my '61 SG along with some $$ coming my way and am now surprised that these haven't become more popular. Great gutiar.

Here are a few pics...

She's a beaut! "Special" or "Custom" something, most likely, due to the inlayed slashed diamond instead of crown.

Given the subject line, I was expecting an Ibanez RG or Washburn Solar. Nothing wrong with those either, but they're not beautiful, like yours.

Yes it is a Midtown "Custom", block inlays, split diamond headstock, multiple bindings all around, similar to the differences between Les Paul Standards and Customs.

Yeah I don't see me ever owning anything that doesn't have either a Gibson, Martin, Taylor, or Fender decal on the headstock!

Thanks Mud...the tone is much more Les Paul than 335 oddly enough, so going to have to play something from the Bluesbreakers!

Wow!! that's a looker. I've got a few Gibson's but never tried a Midtown, after seeing this one I will now.
That's a real beauty.

Just a few Gibsons huh Rhumba? But seriously, I had never played one or seen one in person before, but so glad I took the time to. I just finished a couple hours of playing it and the more I play it, the better I like it! Gibson has done a nice job with this model.
