Yeah that may have just been the Kay brand before they shortened the name.

It wouldn't be a Kay if it were made in Japan, would it?

I was under the impression they were made in Chicago (or some other city not in Japan).

from wikipedia:The Kay name and some of its trademarks (such as Kent and Knox) were later acquired by Japanese business concerns who went on to market inferior imported guitars and amplifiers under those brands.:End source So its a Japanese copy of a Kay guitar

Mike Cambpell of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers played a guitar thaat looks just like mine except with block inlays when he first met Tom Petty

Valco went out of bussiness in 69 70 and the Kay name was bought buy a company name Teisco Del Rey and sold Japan made guitars that look like that. There were many styles one I found kind of looks like yours. Look at the neck style and all on this http://www.theguitarcollection.org.uk/g ... elrey.html

I have a bass that kinda looks like that. It has no markings on it and was covered in red velvet when I got it.
