Maybe I'm old and don't like change much. I'm not sure what kind of improvements can be made to the American Standard line. My only regret is not getting in on the $200 price reduction. Otherwise, quite happy with my 2014 MIA Strat with Fat 50's. I won't miss the olive colored guitar either.

It could be a Deluxe, an AVRI, Signature Series, CS.
Improvement is speculative. Different would be more accurate. Whether it's better or not comes down to personal preference. I think they've been at it long enough now to not fire out a dud. But you never know. Given the current range options. I think they've got a new design team in. I find nothing that gets my wallet finger itching in the new catalogue.

My Am. Std. Jazz, with the ETB92 Nylons. For what ever reason they're messing with the Am. Std. Series, Oh well.

The more I look at the American Elite series the more I feel like I should try it before I knock it. Maybe the only two real changes the truss and the neck plate aren't that bad? Neither is really that big of a change.

I like it a lot. The new S1 switching configuration with the newest version of noiseless pups, sounds great, seems to be very versatile, and works well.

I haven't seen the Am. Std. replacements, so the Am. Std. Jazz is trucking right along.

Big enough of a change that you can't buy a replacement neck that will even fit. Perhaps that will come, perhaps not, but in the mean time, "wait and see" might be prudent.

Fender may end the production of the American Standard, but they will live on in their Epic Trek in Music, and Time, as long as a player is playing an American Standard.

My Am. Std Jazz is a playing bass. It's taking the spot as the go to bass out of my three basses.

Anyway the American Standard isn't the Flagship model. It's popular and good, yes. But the Flagship is the one that shines the torch for the rest to catch up to. The Flagship would be some CS Master Built model costing the price of a 4 bedroom house.

It's the STANDARD (caps shout). That's what Fender say a guitar should be. Now given the popularity of the Special and Highway before it. I'd say they're reevaluating what is the Standard based on customer choice. As I expect those series were hugely popular. And some people bought those over a Standard.

Whatever 1986 was a great year. This incarnation of Fender has to be the strongest. They ain't dummies that run the show. They won't leave us high and dry.

Who are you trying to kid? If it likely would make those who own Fender's debts more money than staying the course, they certainly would. They don't have a choice. Venture capitalists consider five years long term. They're not in it for a stable company ten or twenty years down the road. Maximize short term profits, sell, and move on.

It sure would seem that way. Survival is keeping your head above water. The problem gets to be, how long can you tread water?
