Hi, I stumbled upon what looks to be a bit of a gem in my basement. I found a Fender Dual Showman Amp Chassis. It's hand written with black marker in the chassis - 1966 24th week.... What looks like "BEN". And a number.

Are 1966's any more special or sought after than later years or are they all pretty much the same?

Dual Showman models are similar up through April of 1968 when the original AB763 circuit was superseded by the inferior AC568 revision. The amp requires a 4-ohm speaker system for optimum source/load coupling.

Thanks Arjay, It's pretty well covered in a thick dust which actually looks like it's sort of protected it from corrosion if that makes any sense at all. A swiped off the area where it says Showman Amp and looks pretty good under all the dust.

I may clean it up a bit and show some pictures here at some point. It may not be quite the gem after all after i just noticed the knobs aren't on it. They may be somewhere around it.

Could anyone here point me to where to look and see what the knobs would look like so I'll know what to look for?

Further discussions regarding this topic should be posted in the forum's vintage amp section. That's where the hard-core amp junkies hang out.

Okay, if I post any other pre-85 Fender gear on here, I'll post it in that section.

I'll go down in the basement right now and take a few pics real quick...... It hasn't been cleaned at all so try not to be too shocked at the dust/dirt.

Hopefully I can remember how to post pics, I think I did it through photo bucket before.

The number engraved into the chassis is A-13089

The chassis SN# pegs it as a 1968 as does the Silver faceplate.

1968 SNs ran from A12500 to A15000 and were either AB763 or AC568.

You'd have to match schematics to determine which.

All in all not a bad find, but minus the Cab & Speaker it won't command top $.

Consider all the electrolytics past it at this point and in need of replacing, likely several resisters as well and perhaps some of the pots.

Add a few hundred $ of vintage glass too.

But don't even think about firing it up until you've had the trannys professionally evaluated and bench tested.

Cheers!

I've got more "vintage glass" than I'll probably ever use in my lifetime so no problem there but as far as firing it up, it's not happening anytime soon.

This has been in my basement since the 80's, don't know any of it's history before that besides I think it was purchased or traded for from a local guitar shop back then.
