Does anyone here make their own MIDI cables?
If so, where are you getting your bulk cable and connectors?
My normal list of bookmarks for guitar and amp related parts/supplies isn't helping me and I must too dense to come up with the right combination of input search words for Google.
I've found numerous sites showing how to make them, which I don't need because it's nothing more complicated than a little soldering and making sure the right conductors go to the right pins.
Trouble is, none of these How-To sites I've found tell you what to use or where to get it.
Most all those sites seem to agree that Mogami makes good cable and Switchcraft makes good ends.
Alas, no part numbers and more importantly, no suppliers.
I've tried searching places like Mojo, StewMac and the like with searches such as MIDI, DIN, Multi-conductor, etc.
I guess those places don't deal in such items.
Either that or there is some kind of secret search wording I am missing somehow.
Any help would be appreciated.

Search for din plugs mate. I suspect mouser is the place for you to order. Well it's the only American company I know.

What do you need, 5/6/8 pin? Depending on functions.
What's it gotta connect.

here's Mouser.

As a random I chose 8 pin sockets. Obviously if you're connecting 8 pins. You want cable with 8 cores. it goes up to 13 pins.

Personally, I'd just buy em. I think my 8 pin cable that's a couple of meters long cost me £5

Thanks heaps for the link, Niki.
:!: Much appreciated.
I'll definitely check them out.
I need some custom 5 pin MIDI cables for a new pedal board I want to build.
I'll want some custom lengths as well as some with right angle plugs on one end, both left and right handed and straight on the other end, so I can tighten up the empty space between the pedals with midi ports out the side.

As for the right and left, I found this useful video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BajiNx7iXO8

I will also search Mouser for some cabling.

Thanks again.

Looks like Mouser primarily sells their cable by the roll for hundreds and hundreds of dollars.
Little steep for a single project like this one.
I think I may consider just buying some right angled ends and cutting up a few MIDI cables I already have on hand, shortening them and installing the right angles.

Thanks again.

Bummer on the bulk thing. The shortest I could find is 30meters for £30 in the UK.

What I do find with these things is that you can get a specific name to search the interweb.
So I went on Ebay US. And found this with free shipping, despite being from a UK source.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LAPP-KABEL-0034 ... 6_UgugyClw

All it's gotta carry is data right? It should be fine for that. I wouldn't use it for signal.

EDIT found the length. It's $4.60 a meter. You only want a couple of meters at most don't you?
If so, buy it twice. Free shipping after all.

Thank you very much for your time and effort.
I truly appreciate it.

I ordered some Switchcraft ends.
I think I will just use up the cables I have already since I can think of no reason for having them, other than the fact I am somewhat of a packrat, stowing away every little bit of all manner of materials I find in the hope I may some day have a use for it. Perhaps today is some day.

Thanks, Mike.
I ordered some already and they're on the way.
The cable is the only issue and if I can't get any I'll just cut up some that I already have.
