Thanks for chiming in, willieaames.

I like most everything with Hall & Oates, SBLS. What a terrific matchup. Some of their televised specials are great too. Thanks, for adding that to the Chillin’ thread. :D
Two of the greatest songwriters in Rock and Roll with too many hits to list here wrote ( Hound Dog, Kansas City, Jailhouse Rock, On Broadway, Stand By Me, Poison Ivy, and more ).

I always liked the lyrics of this song, and now I know why. I just discovered Jerry Lieber and Mike Stoller wrote this too. It’s an oldie, and not to everyone’s taste, but I still appreciate the chillin’ songwriting.

Beautiful music Rev, Gary that was a cool song. I always thought Nat King Cole wrote this song but it was the fellow in this video.

Truly beautiful video, Rollie. Nat really got the ball rolling with this chillin’ song.

I learned of Chaplin’s contribution early on, and I was closely associated with The Jerry Lewis Telethon over the years where Jerry used this as his theme song.

But, in ‘63 he ended his 3 months of The Jerry Lewis Show with this famous performance.

And who could ever forget MJ?

I love to tinkle it on the keyboards when I’m in the mood, and I have been known to dabble with it on the Strat at times. I have a feeling this great song has a lot of life in it yet.

Thanks, CC

Smile. :D

Thank you for posting Gary. Something strange about all of those videos. Jerry Lewis was talented but I've read he could be a putz (not a desirable characteristic) funny about the telethon I was on the phones for them one year and while calling all of my friends that I knew could afford it for donations to get my numbers up (bad, bad, bad) I called one of my oldest friends and asked for even a small donation and he said "answer this question if every year the kids get sicker why does Jerry just look better and better what are they doing with all the money ?"and he hung the telephone up on me  Cleo Laine can not do Miles Davis, the clown was an interesting skit the first time I saw it, brought back memories thank you Gary. Michael just went too weird disconcerting video but informative.
Here is one that is on one of these pages. I posted that I saw him in '76 on the Peter Frampton thread, the long walk from parking to the racetrack he was playing this song it was so loud that day and it just got louder from there, remember this

Can’t disagree there, SBLS. But, everything is relative. I’m sure Jerry had some compensation, but knowing how his work had value throughout the year I doubt if it was out of hand. There is a charity that is top heavy with management that has been questionable though. It’s not my way. As for his distasteful character, I can’t say. Sometimes, it’s the messenger that’s the problem, and sometimes . . . That would not surprise me though. He could keep good company with a lot of nice entertainers with a flip side. My experience is that most are sincere and nice except for a lot of theater snobs, and the odd artist across the board who is still struggling to climb the last few rungs of the ladder wishing to chop them down with an axe to grind.

As for your friend SBLS, who kept his pocket change, I and Mark Goffney whom I met when he was a young fella, know where the money goes.

I’ve had close affiliation with numerous telethons big and small, having directed the first Vatiety Club one in Canada. A startup station I helped to build with crew mates from a former station signed on with The Jerry Lewis Telethon and, with other concrete examples I've known that are out there, in 1982 some of that Lewis’ investment paid off locally and it was announced to the public for the first time by Lewis in Vegas during that event.

I was expecting to hear if the they were ever going to announce your free calls across the country, Rollie. That’s up there with the phone booth I heard about that sat at the end of a familiar Navy Jetty with a coin hanging from a string so sailors could call home or their girlfriends in foreign ports for free. As soon as the coin with the hole was gone, another quickly replaced it. :P
As for Cleo Laine you're right. she can’t sing Miles, but he can’t sing like her either.
Now Gary Wright Dream Weaver. What a great song. That must have been awesome live.
1975 was a great year for music IMHO. Dream Weaver was one. This gem was another:

Great song, Rollie. I prefer the original 1976 version. I usually like the originals more.

I agree Marky. I chose those two for the song title, being the same and although not mixing that well the chill isn't too broken. Just as same chord progressions are used in many songs the melodies, maybe different, but sometimes not so much, and they can be mixed. So , to a lesser extent same titles seem to draw similar vibes. I have thought to check all of the songs titled Rock and Roll to see if the theory holds. Going back to 1949 forward might be too big of a search for an old timer like me lol.

Sara. Both nice. Love Stevie, but I agree with you both that the first is the winner here.

Maybe it’s the chauvinistic male vocalist/subject vibe as it relates to the song. I have a copy of Tell Laura I Love Her, but having collected answer songs I also have Tell Tommy I Miss Him. Both are pretty equal in tone and performance. The original is hard to beat IMHO; however, I can’t help to thinking that it has something to do with initial familiarity and concept for comparison. I know generational gaps have shown this to occur quite often. It’s a, “Hey! Did you hear that great new song?” “You mean that old one?” I don’t know how many answer songs (aside from parodies) have made it as successful as their predecessor. Lyrics added to instrumentals including classical hits (such as Presley did) have done well; but, I digress.

Your same chord different melody is in a whole other camp, Rollie. Same for a melody with different chords. We tend to have a mental preference, but I’m of the belief, as science has shown, that there is more to the skin and senses than most know or believe when it comes to acceptance of sounds and music. Humans are a strange lot. N’est-ce pas?

Still a chill is chillin’ 8)

I like this one, and it includes Amy Grant unlike the original.

Wow! That’s quite a compliment brother SBLS. Oh, that I could live up to it. Thank you, but I’m not worthy. I’ll keep trying though, :P
As for Thin Lizzy I’ve got chocolate all over my face with a smile. Great song and recording from a great band, Rollie. Another one I missed, but thankfully heard here due to your good taste. :D
Cheers!

Nicki Gonzales and her crew are in the pocket. Thanks, for posting, Rev J.

I really like Nicki’s tone and vocal skill. The way she growls is icing on the cake. The musicians are polished pros from the beautiful bass work with nuances to the hot LA drummer, yeah, like they’re hard to find in LA  and the others in between. All in all I agree they’d be a terrific cover band to sit in with. 8)

After three great songs presented by SBLS and Rev J. it’s time for me to payback some chillin’.

I give you this:
