Just watched a report that Martin Luther King day will see a 15 billion dollars U.S. Navy carrier named for the first black sailor to have this honour. It will be for messman Doris Miller who earned the Navy Cross for valour when combat training was not available for African Americans. Doris did his share of battling Japanese aircraft with a machine gun in the Attack on Pearl Harbor. Unfortunately, Doris’ fate later ended with a sinking by a submarine.

Congratulations to his family, and I salute a great sailor who, as others, made a difference.

Art Noveau, Art Deco, Mid Century Home Stereo, beautifully coloured Art Deco automobiles, and other similar things when form and hands on function meant value and experiment instead of talking to it. Mind you, some of the designs earlier were bone ugly; but, not as bone ugly as that which followed. IMHO. Then again beauty is in the eyes and ears of the beholder so YMMV. The cool factor varies.

How is it that the average new home is bigger, and the average new audio system is smaller? Or is it that the rooms were smaller, and the stereo was bigger. Today’s rooms are bigger and the TV is bigger and the playback is smaller just more of it.
