My dad took me on a fishing trip to Minnesota. What a disaster. The car caught on fire. We caught a mess of Northern Pike. The stove in the cabin wouldn't get hot enough to fry them in an iron skillet.
Not just the 2 of us, another adult and his 2 kids. 2 urbanite adults and 3 kids attempting to be "outdoorsmen".
All in all, we had a great time. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Who cares what I'm watching? Those memories are worth way more than something on tv.
Cheers,

Cheers,
Thanks, for your story, vinyl. Sorry to hear it was uneventful for the car and stove. That’s what the great outdoors is all about. It’s a mandatory challenge to make men outa boys, and kids outa men. You haven’t lived until your outboard motor fails and there’s nobody on the lake to rescue you in October as the rain storm fills your boat, and you reluctantly threaten to throw your inexperienced city friend overboard unless he’s bailing instead of wailing. I once worked on a boat for rescue during an annual major bathtub race across a strait. Never thought I’d need a rescue, but we/I managed. Surfing the Net or texting while outdoors kinda defeats the getaway, and the fact that cell coverage even today is most often limited in remote areas, it sure could have helped that day.

Hope you got to eat some of those Minnesota fish you caught. Nice! As for memories versus tv, I’m with you. Most memorable tv will return as a rerun anyhow. It must have been great for all of you to share the comradeship and good times doing what guys do. In the family room I have a photo of me and my first stringer and tiny Ontario fish which my dad, uncle, and great uncles helped me catch while they kept their line out of the water until I caught my share. Good thing because all the fish would have been caught by those experts.
Today’s generation thinks survival is calling for restaurant delivery. Some think the outdoors is sitting on the busy beach or walking the streets amongst a crowd. Camping is booking a hotel with a buffet and a fire is in the lobby. That’s okay if it floats your boat. We’ve all been there, had my fill of hotels last year, and Mrs. FSB can take or leave the outdoors with ease; but, accommodations on a lake or in the mountains or other scenic outdoors area beats the city with both of us. We already have a mall within walking distance and a Cabelas 15 minutes away right next to the country’s largest IKEA and another mall. :P
Cheers back at ya, vinyl

Some old video tape programs. one of which shows fishing for 100 pound halibut in Alaska, steelhead on Vancouver Island with a guide who shared a desk by me at work, and rainbow trout on a lake a short 10 miles from my old home.
