Checking out and chucking out a lot of VHS tapes which I’ll donate because they are hard to find here.

I’ll keep some SVHS concerts and shows, Julia Child and other old time classic chefs, some classic horror and sci-fi, some oddities like the Stones in 3D, and sound prominent movies like Earthquake to push the sub woofer and to shake the family room along with big production epics, spaghetti Westerns, and more to add to my pirate, western, battle, Boone / Crockett, and Last of the Mohicans DVDs for some nostalgia. :P
Tonight, after years of not seeing them (since there are few movies I’ll watch more than twice, and most I’ll watch just once), we watched for the last time:

Repo Man

Scorpio

We’ll continue movie afternoons and/or nights until the curtain comes down, and until we give the video cassettes a final goodbye.

Ah, sensurround. Midway was one of those. Sadly, a commercial failure. A couple of others that I can't recall.

Super VHS and Super Beta, and Hi-Fi versions of both.

Technology frequently leaves us behind, after collecting our money. Lossless compression? I'm happy with MP3s for my car, what with road noise, etc.

Digital has some things going for it in terms of noise and crosstalk, but after all, do we hear or see in digital? Nay.

I think that's why we still there is still an interest in analog recordings.

Originally, I studied electronics because I wanted to work in a recording studio. When it came time to fish or cut bait, that became a dream that evaporated if I wanted to make a living. Along with working as a stagehand at concerts. IATSE? If you aren't born or marry into it, forget it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with how things have worked out. I had an interesting career, got to learn a lot of new stuff along the way, and managed to pick up a pension along the way.
I find myself rambling again.

Apologies,

Not sure what my point is here.

Apologies again,

Hey, vinyl. That be no rambling. I hear ya loud and clear and know whence you’re coming from.

I was fortunate to work in two (of three) stations one of which was an AM/FM powerhouse, and the other a head office for a network. The first was one of the last to have full coverage colour video, but the company made up for it by being (mentioned elsewhere, but here for the example) the first and one of the only (if not the only) Quad simulcasts (FM audio with TV) using both stations together with Sansui engineers alongside. The second was the first in the country to go full stereo 24/7. While these accomplishments were stepping forward at the time, one might also say it’s a step backward since stereo won over based on simplicity and economics. Not many experienced the best symphony in town playing in all four corners of their room while difficult angled shots played out on the idiot box.

I mention Earthquake because it was sitting in front of massive Cerwin-Vega speakers at the theatre that outshone the movie. Yep! Audio won out here. People then and now didn’t particularly go for the movie, they went to be shaken, rattled, and rolled, and the people on the street heard about it.

https://daily.redbullmusicacademy.com/2 ... erwin-vega

Whether it’s Fantasia, Star Wars’ lasers , Top Gun’s afterburners, or the rumbling rolling stone from Raiders of the Lost Ark I think it would be cool to have a festival of the best influential audio movies out there. I have a feeling the best haven’t been made yet; but. there are some mighty great contenders. IMHO

Who knows? Maybe, we’ll be wearing wireless binaural headphones, or electrodes and a body suit.
