I watched the news on my phone.

GARY - Remember we talked about our YT freezing problem with our older smart TV's? I stumbled across a solution. Dish, my satellite provide, offered free remote controls which use voice commands, so I got one. When I use it to call up a YT video, the video never freezes. I tried leaving it on for about three hours and no freeze. It didn't freeze all weekend!

I believe it's because YT is coming through the satellite box and not through the TV's app. So it doesn't use the TV's cache or buffer or whatever. Maybe voice remote is available in your area.

Fantastic sleuthing Detective Marky. Glad you have it working for you and thanks for the tip, :D
I think your answer is a good one. For me not so easy; but, possible I’m guessing. With the older set, Sony removed their YT app after an onscreen notification that YT was no longer compatible with the YT upgrade. My thinking is it might have had to do more with agreements than compatibility because Netflix was added. Can’t say. Other apps have not been added overtime. It’s kinda dormant in that arena. Other sets have YT apps built in.

The non YT Sony set has it’s own PVR hookup and box. Adding to that 2 sets with built in YT, and one rear screen projector without YT. That makes 3 on a Gateway cable system each with their own box. The Gateway system shares a dual recording PVR so I can go from room to room and record or playback all together or seamlessly from one room to the other. The reason for the single box system with a PVR is in case one setup fails or to prevent Mrs. FSB and me having a recording or live conflict. I really don’t sit In front of TV all day, but recording is handy.

I know voice control is available for cable, and I can see where Dish (satellite) has an advantage. Our extreme weather does work well with cable though. I’m not sure if dish would facilitate my setup, but it may, and I wouldn’t rule it out.

Here’s a question, Marky. Did Dish work for your YT before voice commands? Could it be the same or different Dish app for voice or no voice? I guess my question more relates to if and why a different app would come into the picture with regular versus voice Dish or is Dish a new adventure for you? I’m guessing you have a different command (satellite) receiver now? My thinking is the voice command version has less to do with it than the actual Dish hookup and the app link regular and/or voice Dish uses per se as you alluded to.

Here’s a caveat in the works for me, other than limited Internet providers for which I now have a cable bundle with high speed cable. Without cable or the phone company bundles Internet can be pricey unlike days of past with more choice, Another quasi monopoly, So changeover may not be cost effective or it may be. Canada has their own YouTube which can be overridden on the Net but not with TV AFAIK. Broadcasting is very protective of their revenue and distribution and this includes app access. (I’m so sorry the Internet has upset the money-grubbing TV and radio giants who kiboshed freedom of access, and fairness of competition by not permitting independent public radio and tv as the Net provides). Whether these territorial restrictions will affect our YT access app wise or otherwise I can’t say. I think my neighbour may have Dish, so I’ll ask around because ya never know :P Something to add to the options for sure, Marky. Thanks!

I’m hoping to laptop to the TV(s) wirelessly in the future, and I’m guessing there’s an answer somewhere.

Happy U Toobing, Marky. 8)

Watching Canada’s election. Environment, pipelines, medicinal and recreational drugs, immigration, scandals, and a whole lot more up for grabs. Interesting times,

I’m surprised hockey, beer, and toques didn’t make the list.

Here's the deal with my setup. I have 1 Dish DVR Receiver connected to 3 TV's through the house. The main TV is a direct HDMI connection. The other 2 TV's have a little box called a Joey that connect the TV's to the DVR. All 3 can be on at the same time watching different things.

I can broadcast to any of the TV's from my laptop or Android phone through my wireless home network because it uses the TV's YT app. The newer TV's work great but no matter how I broadcast the YT video to the older TV, it uses the TV's built-in YT app to play the video, just like in the newer ones, but doesn't work without the freezing.

The reason it works now, in the older TV, is because it does not use the TV's YT app. The YT signal is sent directly to the TV from the DVR. I think it would work on a regular TV because of this.

I hope this makes sense. I'm not proof reading it because I'm late for a doctor appointment. Good luck!

Thanks, for your YT Dish setup details, Marky. You did a fine job explaining it. Nice to be able to kiss that frozen screen goodbye, huh?

Not sure what I can or will do. We are actually making changes to how we think of our living and entertainment space. TV will be a big part of it as they may change locations, always a big PITA, but it’s good to have alternatives and yours is a good one. As I said earlier, there are a lot of factors, and nothing stands still with Smart TV, providers, computers, this country’s legislated restrictions, and $$ :? I think computing, and whole house concerns will play a bigger role and who knows what YouTube and others have in mind. Perhaps, full internet on the flat screens is the best chance we have of keeping up. New technology is always just around the corner. I have a feeling user fees are too. Remember when all tv and radio was free? Maybe the rest of you heard about it.
Meanwhile, I’m laughing and crying while watching our federal election’s final results live.

Oh, Canada, eh?!

Aw, fuggedabout it.
