That's a very cool video, Gary. Thank you. Sadly, all of my vinyl was lost in a flood and I never replaced it so I have none.

One of my friends in the '70s was a complete audiophile. He had the first quadraphonic system with a JBL Paragon speaker that I ever hear. It was absolutely amazing and we listened to it for hours on end.
Glad you liked the video, Marky. Sorry to hear about the flood and losing your possessions including your records. Those Paragons were fantastic as were many of that era. No Bluetooth speakers back then. :P My moves had me leave a lot of records behind and much of my teenage collection went with my family when they moved without me. I was totally immersed into Quad with every format, some of which was experimental where I worked. I got bit hard for home gear, including discrete 4 channel headphones, only to see it sadly IMHO fade out not only for playback formats, but for popular and rare recordings too. One station simulcast Quad early on, and the other was the first stereo and later 3D broadcaster in Canada (momentarily with the Vancouver Stones telecast). I still have 3D glasses for this on my SVHS machine now on YouTube:

The local morning news.
Me too. Well . . . sort of. I remember the days when the name news stood for North, East, West, and South. News without spins or enhancements actually was a losing venture, and likely still is without the wrapper. Millions of dollars of research concluded local news could be covered in five or ten minutes, international news in 10 to 15 minutes. That’s when newscasts had jumped to 1 hour and were economically and systematically brought back to the half hour newscast. At our station we had short live news briefs aired two to four times an hour were it really late breaking news. Can’t do that now. It has to be worked up, and extra flavours have to be added for extra consumption. Definitely better technology, more coverage, but better reporting? Questionable. Late breaking and Live graphic representation is incredible. I guess an SLN clip is news. Nope! Entertainment and promotion? Yep! Might as well have Cracked Magazine in the paper. I miss Andy Rooney. I wonder how he would handle this.

How hard is it for classic news to gather viewers? Well, almost all other programming has a history of higher ratings, and that’s why top rated shows lead into the upcoming newscast. Even news networks depend on so called specials and series TV for interest, agenda, and extra moola. Getting the audience to stay with the network is a challenge after the newscast. Promotion, entertainment, editorial. and political opinions were cannibalized from other bill paying and high ratings interests, and inserted into news coverage. A lot of freebies to and from. Easy peasy more mileage with an easy transition and resources.

Sound bites became stories and, along with other speculation and blab, news today skirts rule based journalistic presentation. Does it have to be? Nope! Give the audience what they want. Double up on it and run the same story with the same presentation elsewhere. Don’t mix it up with new or different editing or coverage. Flog the same old same old over and over like a rerun. It’s proven, cheaper, and mind bending overload (sometimes intentional). Follow ups sometimes become programs instead of the news. Want a follow up? Wait for it. We haven’t exhausted the breaking story yet. If it’s a great follow up, make a mini or full length movie to show at the theatre or to add to subscribed movie channels. Phtt! New(s) gets old pretty fast. :?:
Anchors are celebrities, many are egotistical and claim to be authorities on anything and everything they report on. Not always, but more often than not, the experts are the resources, guests, and staff that support the highly paid presenters. Local news, under staffed in many cases, is a whole different scenario with very capable reporters and anchors. Agents and owners get movie and pop stars on news, and newscasters get to be on movies and red carpets. A lot of that hooey can be replaced by a having a computer read scripts, not unlike Pathe’ news voice overs of yesteryear. It’s in the writing. Always had been, always will be. News is a science, TV ratings are a science, and we all know there is good and bad science.

I’m a news junkie when I can find it. It starts and ends my day. I was a paper boy in my youth and was educated in journalism and worked with a HS newspaper. As an adult I worked in three different newsrooms over thirty years (some run by television gurus and another with a major newspaper editor-in-chief); but, most of all I enjoyed reading quality newspapers by old school reporters from places like Chicago (I was nuts about humorist Mike Royko Jr.) London, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver, and many other key cities including small town gems. Too bad these deserving contributors and other deserving journalists today didn’t or don’t get the payola they deserve(d) compared to the millionaire in front of the camera. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry nowadays. I’m finding less cluttered news wherever I can by looking outside of North America which has become saturated by monopolies of entertainment media.

C’mon television. Do what the rags do. Put the news on the front page and the opinions on the back page. Tell the news or learn the news, don’t make the news or be the news. Just my two cents. At this post’s length it’s more like a quarter.
Here’s a news story for you in case you missed it:

Lemme see. Maybe, we could watch SLN for the news, and the news for comical entertainment.
Aw, fuggedaboutit.

I'll be watching that new Stephen King-like show at 10 called "Evil" - the first episode
last week was very good, not blood and guts but a real good suspense thriller and I
hope they stay with this theme tonight.

Thanks, for the heads up on Stephen King’s ‘Evil’ series, Mike. That looks to be good (and scary). :D
