I recorded two WWII morale building and funding effort movies that were playing during a free promotion of the channel.

One was an American submarine movie Crash Dive (1943) with Tyrone Power, Dana Andrews, and Anne Baxter. It was Tyronne’s last movie before he joined the Marines. A heart attack sadly took him at 44.

The other I haven’t seen yet is One of Our Aircraft Is Missing. A propaganda morale builder 1942 RAF story about escaping the Germans with help of the Hollanders. Considered to be one of the best British movies of it’s day, it is done by the same team that did a famous motion picture (in 1941, the year before), well known by movie buffs, with Raymond Massey and Glynis Johns. The first is about a U-Boat that gets to Hudson's Bay in Manitoba. After having escaped the wrath of the RCN and RCAF sinking, the Germans make it to Winnipeg and cross the country to escape the authorities. They hope to make it to then neutral USA so they can return to Germany, and/or also to optional Japan. That movie is called The 49th Parallel here but, interestingly, it was released as The Invaders stateside, probably for good reason in those days.

Well, watching the movies were a touch of frustration last night because although they both had two hours of recording listed the screen was black. The cable company did not allow a recording or whatever even though everything pointed to they did. They have in the past.

I was not a happy camper because I had the chance to watch them earlier. Hey! I have YouTube on TV. I wonder . . . . . Yep! Found ‘em. Watched the sub movie, the aircraft movie tonight, and maybe the 49th Parallel again which I haven’t seen for some time.

They’re dated, but so are pirate movies and they rock in my world.
