Thanks for the post, Rich. I didn't know JB had a new concert. I bet that was a great one. I'm a JB fan so I watched a couple of his songs from the concert on YT. 8) He does an amazing solo in, "Breaking up Someone's Home". Here it is for those who haven't seen it:

It was a great show, but it was more of a PBS fundraiser... only got 4 or 5 pieces out of the hour with 10 minutes of begging for cash in the studio, but for $350 donation I could get a pair of tickets to his Long Beach show.
The show is available on CD and DVD.
I've not seen him "live" before except a Youtube video here and there... I was out of the loop for a good 10-12 years while he was becoming a commercial success.

I’m watching Saskatchewan riding very roughly over Winterpeg.

Looking forward to Edmonton crushing Calgary.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I caught the PBS Muddy Wolf at the Red Rocks concert earlier on. Good show. The Greek must have been even better, Rich.

Nice addition there, Marky.

I wasn’t a Bonamassa fan before checking out some of the entries in this Forum. It’s not Joe’s fault. I grew up listening to Blues, and even have some rarities from the cotton fields to chain gangs, early jazz, classic masters, Brit and American blues, and everything in between.

But, like all music there is good, bad, and great. I just have this weird thing that turns me off from the Blues at times. I didn’t think I’d turn to playing it, (in fact, because so many with a guitar play it at all levels, the go to jam when nothing else works, I avoided it like the plague, but I still enjoyed listening to good Blues); however, the Strat is a natural for that, and I too am now hooked for playing it, but all is not exciting or unique when I play it, and yet my noodling can even surprise me sometimes - being better than expected. I like to dabble with Blues on the keyboard too. What is it they say? You can’t play it until you experience it. Been there done that, so I qualify. 8) Of course, being in the mood is a bonus.

That said, I just find the fun of playing the Blues is quite different to listening to it. Hard to get bored playing it, because it comes from the soul. The Blues can be repetitive to the point of brain freeze, is often watered down so to speak and, at times, the playing can be so simple that there is something missing in my books, and boredom is not far from excellence at times. Some of the best Blues I’ve encountered is not technically terrific. Nor are the vocals textbook. There are great albums to be sure, but many Blues albums fall short unless they are compilations of great songs from a variety of artists. Sort of like wine. Many great ones, and the rest are not worth talking about.

I now have a better appreciation for Joe whom I missed the last time he was here in town. I always thought he was in that premium category, and his resume supports it. Record sales and following are not the only way to judge an artist. They may make the Monday sales meeting though. For me, a lot of his stuff included bleh. Beth Hart certainly has been a great addition as have his backup singers and band members. The stuff he is doing nowadays is excellent, and he is more consistently hitting it out of the park IMHO, and for those who base their fan following on sales and ratings, it must be said that Joe is moving upward in all of those areas. I hope he gets a Grammy for his latest recordings.

Definitely a pass for Joe from this dude.

What really makes him stand out for me is he has taken SRV's "dabbling" with the swing/big band sound and taken it to the next level incorporating it with the Blues. It's a nice fusion that is a breath of fresh air for a style that I didn't really get into until the mid-90s, and still from time to time gets a little old.

Agreed on all accounts, Rich. Worked for Richard Wayne Penniman.
