I think I'll put on an episode of NCIS. It's easy to watch before bedtime.

That sounds like a good one, FSB. I'm watching the clock as I wait for my son to finish his infusion.

I hope your son is improving.

It is pretty good, Marky. My father who worked at the Canadian Studebaker plant would have enjoyed it. I think you would too. Mostly about the beginnings and development of the Big Three, their competition, how they incorporated them, and also destroyed them if they could.

Just like media, lawyers got into the act. Many entrepreneurs and innovators for the automobile ran up against legal agreements preventing anyone else from getting in the game. Scoundrels had others pay them for what the license holders owned but didn't create. A practice held in many circles today. Only for the car industry that practice (mostly patents) was brought back to an even playing field. Good thing or we’d all be driving one monopolized car today.

A lot of cool facts. Did you know that Chrysler was a major train builder? I believe the largest. That’s one of the things you’ll learn. I watched this docudrama on the. History channel and it has been on a few times. Maybe you’ll catch it.

Incidentally, the neighbour I had in the hospital bed next to me (when I was there) owns a ‘47 Chev’ and a ‘53 Ford. He knew a lot about the requirements for the Scottsdale Arizona car auctions as his friend was involved. Interesting how much is invested for prep just to get a car on that auction block.

My son is hanging in there. Thanks for your well-wishes.
That's cool that your father worked for Studebaker. One of my friends father owned a Studebaker dealership and I got a ride in a brand new 1963 Avanti. Man it was fast for the time and it looked cool too. I was very impressed. :) It looked just like this one:

Interesting fact about Chysler. I didn't know they manufactured trains. I'm going to check out the History Channel and see if I get that program.
Keep up the good healing and stay strong, my friend!

Best to your son, Marky,

That Avanti was very cool and averaging $4000 at the time. Nice you got that experience. I always saw a comparison with the late comer Olds Tornado. Studebaker was an innovated over performing underrated company. History in design and land speed records supports that.

Thank you for your wishes too. I feel better already even though my lower arm looks like a calico cat which is okay because I always wanted to be a cool cat.
I’m about to have lasagna and I’m now catching up with yesterday’s game where my team let go of recently acquired troublesome Heisman trophy winner Johnny Manziel. This was after the Ti-Cats gave him a chance to redeem himself both morally and as an athlete after the NFL dropped him. One of football’s great coaches June Jones brought him to the CFL against better judgment. Apparently, Manziel wasn’t happy on the Hamilton Tiger Cats’ bench, and he let the quarterback, team, coach, and the home of Studebaker/Steeltown know it.

Manziel was traded to the Montreal Alouettes who have had 14 QBs in 5 years and they’re hoping Johnny football is the answer.

He’s got the razzle dazzle, but he’s finding a larger field, only three instead of four downs, four interceptions (first ever for him), and a team he disrespected is payback on his debut game. 38 to 3 for Hamilton. If that's not bad enough, that’s going into half time.

I have no doubt the kid will learn. He’ll have lots of teachers and the big boys in black and gold will leave him with lots of homework tonight.

I hope you enjoyed the game and the good guys won, FSB.

The Olds Toronado did have a similar look. It was launched in 1966 (my favorite year) and had a 425 (7.0L) or 455 (7.5L) V8 engine with front wheel drive. The first time I saw one, it was sitting at a stop light and, when his light turned green, he lit up those front tires and took off in a cloud of burned rubber. It was really strange to see a front wheel burn out. The first year was by far the most beautiful, IMO.

Well done. Marky. That’s the comparison I had in mind. Beautiful specimen. Way to go with the colour matchup,

I agree that the first year Tornado was the better of the bunch. I always thought it odd that it took so long for front wheel drive to become popular. FWD had been around long before the Tornado (1890s). Citroen improved it, and America’s 1930 Cord 810 ended America’s FWD until the Tornado. The Europeans and Japanese continued to make FWDs into the 40s, 50s, and 60s though.

‘66 was a great year for cars. Take the Mustang for example. It was the first year for all gauges instead of idiot lights before and after. How times have changed. Remember when you had to purchase and install separate gauges if you wanted them? :P 0h, and one other thing. You could fill a warehouse with clocks that either couldn’t keep time or stopped working altogether.
While it could be argued about the differences, if you compare the Avanti to other ‘63s you’ll likely find the Avanti compared more to the Tornado.

Not hard to understand considering designers jumping between companies. Today famed car designer Peter Schreyer brought Audi designs to Kia and Hyundai, and you’ll find some similarities in some of their earlier bodywork and even inside trim. Add to that lot the designer for Bentley and Lamborghini, although that’s more of a stretch (so far). The other method is to buy companies outright to get their designs and technology. GM is famous for that, and Ford bought and sold Volvo, Jaguar, and (my fave) Aston Martin. Current cars adopted the European big grill (great for prairie bugs and winter chill) which harkens back to yesteryear and so the history continues.

Cheers!
FSB

Just catching up on the current News. A lot can happen in two days. Funny how coverage like Hawaii’s volcano gets dropped for the latest greatest and maybe not the latest or greatest. I think the loss of more independent networks and stations compromised broadcasting choices.
