I like the way the story seems to go full circle for the kid.

Me too. Too bad Sonny was killed but that was a huge part of the message in the movie.

Absolutely right about Sonny being killed by the kid who's father was shot by Sonny in the first place.

Well, Marky. I’m not only a space fan having rubbed shoulders with scientists for the American and Soviet exhibits (Expo ‘67) and being able to say I touched the moon (rock) (circa ‘73) courtesy of Marc Garneau first Canadian Astronaut in Space, my working amongst ufologist Dr. Hynek and international scientists with the solar eclipse, meeting Keir Dullea, and more, I have always loved old and new Space movies.

I’m not into Star Trek human noses and similar ears on aliens (Lou Gosset’s Enemy Mine character, Close Encounters, Star Wars, and similar seem to do it right for me) and still I look forward to seeing the latest Star Trek movie on the PVR. I can accept lack of details as long as these shows don’t do things like use the video switcher I was familiar with from my work (18 seconds into the video)

You’d think they could have made some simple modification to enhance the mystery. That spoiled the movie for me, but before I got into the media and worked with effects, movies were something of a fantasy to me. Now it’s not unlike learning the truth about Santa Claus.
The funny thing is, rocket ships on a string with wiffs of smoke were obvious yet acceptable.

You certainly have had some exciting experiences, FSB. Meeting celebrities, scientists, working in the media, special effects, touching the moon rock, etc. You must have so many wonderful memories. I, myself, didn't notice anything strange 18 seconds into the video. For me, ignorance is bliss.
I really liked those old Flash Gordon episodes with their so obviously fake space ships. The little wiffs of smoke from the rocket reminded me of my Lionel train set. :)

I’ve been fortunate, Marky, as many here have also been. As others here have experienced, it comes with sacrifices too, and losing a lot of sleep to do it. Hahaha. Still, I and others wouldn’t change it. Tweak it maybe.
As for Buck Rogers thumbs up. Some of my favourite shows included Tom Mix like cowboys chasing hooded aliens on horses. Of course they’d always ride into a cave or run into a cabin where the posse would follow, and the whole thing would blow up and yet they’d all somehow survive to do it again.
The aliens controls weren’t as sophisticated as that Grass Valley mixer in Star Wars. Never did figure out how the aliens could ride like the wind. Oh, yeah. Right. They were aliens.

Alone.

In a recent series this show was in Vancouver Island, my old home. At the age of ten I wandered off in the woods only to get lost at night, and everything you hear about being lost in the woods is true. Van Isle’s forest has uber tall trees and thick rainforest growth with plenty of bears (app. 7000) that do not hibernate per se as they evolved because of climate and the available food. Add app.1000 cougars with the highest density and attacks in North America. You might not see everything, but you sure hear every little and big thing. I kept banging my bare legs going in a circle over a big stump in the dark, and by breaking branches and keeping them at shoulder height I eventually found my way out a little beat up, but lucky to not have become dinner since the cats are fond of 10 year olds. Later, I found myself backwoods fishing on those isolated logging trails. I never saw those cats and I don’t know if they saw me, but I saw their business covered with a pile of sticks as is their habit so I knew they were there and I’m sure they knew I was there too.
This show is in Siberia and there is no way you’d find me in that wild territory with the vipers or the critters. For one thing they don’t see tourists or residents very often, and I have no hankering to introduce myself. Nope, nope, nope, nope. :|
I luvs this show. These are the real survivors - not the ones picnicking on the beach. :P
Both good shows in their own right, but very different. IMHO

Twister is a good one, Glenn. It's surprising how similar our taste in movies is.

Ya' know, it really is. Good taste is a quality of life.
