I enjoyed watching Canada win hockey in OT over Russia! Russia played well. It just wasn’t their night. Congrats, Canucks!
USA and Canada now move on to the semi finals. :D
I also watched the Stanley Cup playoffs:.
Lightning and Capitals

Just my two cents. YMMV:
IIHF Hockey is my favourite hockey. Olympic hockey without the NHL is there too. (Raw, unspoiled, and bigger rinks where fighting and working the boards doesn’t slow the game). Tomorrow’s advanced players will come from the teams who compete in the IIHF. It will take the NHL to mold them into a bigger, harder hitting player. A better player? Well, Gretsky, Ovechkin, and Crosby in their youth might have had something to say about and show for that. The advantage of having the same team and playing more games in the NHL speaks for itself. No comparison. IMHO.

My latest observation on fighting in hockey;

The last game with Winnipeg and Vegas came with a fight after the game ended! What is that about?

I played goal as a kid (well, let’s just say I took a puck or two), got bored in the crease watching team mates fight instead of playing, so I moved on to fighting in the ring until I was 16 where serious competitive boxing took place in my club with a Golden Glove connection. I never saw a fight break out after the rounds, except once in a pro fight and that I believe was staged.

Fans, sportscasters, the NHL, and others all say it’s the frustration and intensity of the game that justifies it. I say bull! There is plenty of high caliber competitive hockey that shows this to be a poor argument. It’s money and that’s all (whether ticket sales, or players’ salaries).

I’ve worked closely with pro hockey, and those who remember the former before expansion greats will tell you that these pros could trash talk and be dirty and shrewd in the corners and elsewhere without getting caught for penalties, and that caused plenty of frustration. Fighting took a back seat because their competition played the same game. That was smart tough hockey, and you better have a good game in you or they’d wipe the ice with your butt rather than pull the sweater over your head. That’s pretty much how international hockey plays out - old school with new techniques and skill. Maybe, today’s game needs a fight play by play announcer.

For me fighting in hockey is like skates in the ring. In fact, I’ve known a lot of pro and semi pro players who feel the escalation of fighting has hurt the game. I say it doesn’t help it because there is no game during those events. :P YMMV.

FSB

That said I still enjoy watching the playoffs. Not because of the fighting - in spite of it. I hope you are enjoying the games too whatever and whoever your choice. :D

Quite the game. Fleury was phenomenal again. The Jets will have to wear him down, but the Golden Knights have a good defence to support him. Yeah. Like he needs it. :lol:
Never say never in that money game, though. :wink:

"The Case of the Twice Told Twister" Air date was 2/27/1966. I believe this episode was getting to the end of the final season.
