National Geographic
Nazi U-Boat

I love these stories, partly because in ‘65 I served on the most decorated sub hunter in the Canadian Navy. HMCS Swansea built at the end of ‘43.

U-845 (combined sinking), U-448 (combined sinking) , U-311, and U-247 all got sunk by that frigate in her first year of ‘44 just before War’s end. Not too shabby.

Incidentally, U-boats are not submarines, they are submersibles that need to surface after short time under water, unlike the more flexible submarine.

Unfortunately, even National Geographic tends to lump Canadian in with British or simply Allied accomplishments when it suits them. Not always, but all too often. IMHO. This not to take away from British accomplishments, just credit where credit is due. (Canada faced U-boats head on from the very beginning as my father experienced ramming the U-210, and my mother flying with Catalina’s to search out those wolves).
:D

In case history counts for history buffs and for the next U-boat documentary I’ll offer this:

Sept. 14, 1939 - first WWII U-boat U-39 sunk by British after it attacked the carrier HMS Ark Royal off Scotland.

Sept. 10, 1941 - first U-boat U-501 sunk off Greenland by Canadian corvettes.

March 1, 1942 - first WWII U-boat U-656 reported sunk by U.S. Navy (Lockheed Hudson) confirmed, but not yet located off Newfoundland.

April 14, 1942 - first WWII U-boat U-85 to be sunk in U.S. waters off of Nags Head N.C. by destroyer USS Roper.

All within a year of each other.
Now ya know. :D

That’s always a great show. Funny how the older you get the more relevant it becomes adding frustration when you see something you thought was of little or no value that you once had.

I also wish I've had the foresight to keep some stuff that I had as a kid, since a lot of it's worth some money. Hell, I should have held onto my 1977 Fender Jazz Bass. I've noticed they go for around the $2000 or more mark these days, and they're not even pre CBS. Back in the day, they said they weren't worth much because of that, and I only paid $450 for mine, pretty mint condition, with case and covers still attached to the pickups.

You make a good point about the bass, Paul. I think back of my two 1962-63 guitars, one a German mahogany nylon string classical, and the other an American jumbo western all maple. Probably not worth much back then, or, perhaps even now, but like my inexpensive 12 string from the late 60s, I have no doubt thinking that they are worth more today. At the very least they would be worth the same being that they weren’t a lot of money back then, and that included hard cases.

Steve Jobs

Computers are a wonderment. They can point you in the direction of information.

Books are the predecessor of electronic information, and with books you get to choose the direction.

Both are holders of truth, exaggerations, and falsehoods.

Stories line ancient caves and pyramids. Today, Voyageur 1 (over 13 billion miles away) transports data in interstellar space of earth’s culture and history (predicted to lose satellite power around 2025 to accommodate this).

Major players have announced ambient tech (think whole home, cars, offices, voice control, and more) will be the future, and the present is introducing it as a replacement for much of the computing we are familiar with.

Ah, such is the power of the story and the way it is told.

Unlike that of Steve Jobs, no slick marketing is needed. It will come with or without fanfare.

Perhaps, future generations will see robotic linebackers playing the Super Bowl with a world away holographic half time show.

Now where did I leave that book?

One their best live performances in my opinion, haven't seen them all for sure. Definitely a class act! ;-)

For some unknown reason, there are freeze frames at the beginning of all of the songs from this video. Might be the album cover from the tunes not sure, didn't really look into it
