I haven't gotten out from under the table since I was last told to duck and cover many years ago. Hmm . . . thankfully, they were all false alarms.

They still did that when I was a kid in elementary school in the 70's. I guess they stopped doing that anywhere from the late 70's until the 80's, or only did that for little kids. Who knows? It was kind of pointless, anyhow. Especially for nuclear devastation.

Just watched a contestant (from The Voice) by the name of We McDonald nail it with her fantastic (IMHO) rendition of Billie Holiday's God Bless The Child. If you don't know who she is, I'm betting you will in the future.

I remember that when I was a kid in elementary school. It was even more fun with a Ruski last name.

My mom is the Russian/Ukrainian side, so I didn't get the Russian last name. It's French, instead.

If you think the 60s/70s Cold War was scary, you should have been in the bar at that time where I and Mrs. FSB dropped in for a nightcap while on a road trip through Gary, Indiana.

A waitress asked what I wanted from across the room, and I said it was okay. The bar likely wouldn't know what it was anyhow. She said try me, and to her request I called out for a White Russian.

Uh oh! Bad choice. Too bad the patrons didn't know I spent time searching for Ivan's subs back home. 8)
Needless to say this stranger got unfriendly looks in a bar that suddenly went silent at a time when the Soviets were particularly unpopular even with the mention of them or vodka, apparently.
After a brief intermission and a welcoming from the staff this brave and crazy Canuck got that drink, and all was well. :D
Right now, I'm watching Steven Tyler from the Songwriters Series of PBS's Front and Center.

White Russians are one of my favorite drinks. It's been awhile since I've had any because of my diet and I don't want to spend the extra calories on the creamer and Kahlua. I usually stick with rum or bourbon, mixed with either Diet Coke or diet ginger beer, or Miller Lite for beer. It does the job with relatively fewer calories, which is helpful to me right now. When I get down to a maintenance level (no gut,) then I might indulge myself a bit here and there, but still be careful.

I'm watching some sort of show about the Universe on the Science Channel, to keep on topic. :P

Glad you like White Russians too, Paul. I'd like one right now.

For now, I've been busy looking at the inconsistent display of my new stud finder. I don't think it's working because in my 20s it would have found me, and I've aged somewhat.

Good thing it doesn't work, otherwise Mrs. FSB would return it to Customer Service. :P
