Beck still got chops.

If there's anything I'd change, it'd be using a fiddler and actual Woman of Ireland to play Women of Ireland. This was a bit like having Paganini play Cotton Eyed Joe - wonderful technique, but doesn't really catch the soul that you only get by deviating from the sheets, adding your own syncopes and modality.
IMO, YMMV.

Arth!?! syncopes and modality?....err?....well yeah I thought that too. Actually there are some Irish fiddle players that come in our pub that could handle that and them hand drum and stick things ( Can't think of the name ) Accordions, whistles and my mate on bass with his battery amp. Now if I could learn that guitar bit..hmmm..gives me an idea, thanks Arth if we manage to do it I'll get it on video. :D

+... What they said
Although it was pretty darn good, and yes that Beck thing with his tremolo, I have tried without any
semblance at all

I know you're a Beck fan Mike, at first I thought he was going to play a version of ' Two Rivers ' from his Guitar Shop album. 8)

In plain speak, vary the tempo a bit and play a little off tune, but only for the notes where it sounds better that way.
What I call "soul".
Good fiddlers are good at that, much like Hendrix being good at doing the same for guitar.

I think it's Lizzie Ball that plays on the above track, and she's technically really good, but may have a bit less "soul" than Sharon Corr, which he had playing the same song the year before:

I still listen to Sinéad O'Connor's version every now and then. It gives me goosebumps.

Damn, and here I thought that all I needed was the strat, and it would come to me in a day or two! You ... dream squasher, you!

Well, there's always the fiddle. If I buy a strad instead of a strat, I will surely be a master...

Yeah right Arth, I get it now, I'm just not into all this technical speak but now I'm with it. Ha, I'll try and remember those and use them myself later.
What I meant was, with my Beck strat I can get the sound, I just don't play it as good. Hehe but not many folks can. So stick with you're strat, man if you can play at all there's always hope. That's what I keep telling myself anyway.
:D
Thanks for the vids. Cool !! We have a lot of Folkies' coming into our pub and quite a few are Irish, some are very good they sound a lot like that.
Cheers man.

Variety, and people who dare to play and enjoy each other's company. It doesn't get much better on a rainy day.

One of my best memories was an elderly Scottish guy that used to come to the pub, and sometimes when there were enough people having a good time, he'd pull out his penny whistle, and man, could he play. I could hardly understand a word he said, but his playing - that, we all understood.
A little different is good.

That's right Arth. This is a short clip we did early in the year. A few to many guitars at this point perhaps but it livens up later in the night when a few of the characters come in. That's me on the left with the hat on, more of a rocker really. When we don't know what song it is, everybody is following everybody else but we all manage to get to the end. :D
