Who made that guitar? Looks kinda like a Rik machine head. Best seen during "Midnight Rambler" starting at 14:40. Thanks!

Ampeg "Dan Armstrong", they've been around since the late 60's.

Those see through Lucite guitars are/were pretty cool back then. But (if I remember right) they had two main problems that people soon discovered:

1) They were HEAVY - - I mean, heavier than the most hardest wood double-neck guitar!!
2) They had almost no sound, if simply strummed or played acoustically (i.e. like double checking tuning after a string change). They were meant to be plugged in and played.

+1

Correct on both assertions. Lucite is an extremely dense material and has very little acoustic resonance. OTOH, the guitar was designed with a modular pickup system and there were several different field-replaceable coils available, each with a different voicing. The pickup slid into position via a slot machined in the body and held fast with a small knurled thumbscrew. The concept may have been novel but the engineering was sound.

Didn't Bill Wyman have a bass version, or was that someone else?
