Yeah we don't need political correctness. An old forum member I'm still in touch with once gave me a great quote on freedom of speech. "where law abounds, freedom is curtailed".
However, have all the free speech we like, only if it comes with the freedom to give someone a good kicking when they spew a load of bile disguised as words.

My point is that candid discourse comes with an unspoken requirement, empathy towards whoever we're talking to. Something we have always enjoyed a fair bit of on this forum.
Which I think is the main point of BMW KTM's post and that forum advisory note about avoiding certain topics that become inflammatory when people forget that it is other people they're speaking to.
I'm certainly not innocent of that. And can tell you from experience, yeah you win the battle but when the dust settles you find you've lost the war and are alone.
Believe it or not, I used to be quite involved with an evangelical church. (ok pick yourselves up off the floor). One thing I heard there that I remember and has always served me well is based on the NT line, "the truth is a sword".
Yeah truth is a sword, but without grace and compassion, it's just a weapon. What use is a weapon amongst friends?

FWIW
I remember when this forum was only open to comment office hours. And closed all weekend. As a means of circumventing drunken posting.
That proved difficult for someone on GMT. And take it from someone who's done plenty of it. Drunken posting affects no one more than the author. There are few feelings worse than waking up and thinking "oh s@@t what did I write".

The forum is slower now and there's less mod threads going on. I think that is natural for a specific brand. And unfair to compare it to an anything guitar related forum. It's certainly no slower than the Boogie, Marshall or Gibson forums. And the content is still a lot more interesting. Primarily because we go off topic and have always proved ourselves to be largely capable of governing ourselves.
Damn, there's that freedom and responsibility thing again.
