Hi all, I hope everyone is doing well.

I have an acoustic amplifier (Kustom Sienna) that needs new grill cloth; it has just perished due to age and use.

I was wondering if anyone has ever experimented with alternative fabrics like shade cloth, fly screen etc...? Being an acoustic amp, the quality of the tone can't be compromised, so a bit of old wool blanket just won't do!

I could buy the genuine stuff from the manufacturer, but I'm treating this like an opportunity to keep the acoustic properties and get a unique look.

Any ideas?

You can buy grill cloth on ebay, doesn't cost much.

+1 on ebay- bought speaker cloth there before, and you can find different colors and styles too.

I saw some pictures of grateful dead gear from the late 60's most likely. they had fender amps with tie dye grill cloths that I thought looked cool. I have been thinking about getting a kit and doing it myself.

of course, I've been saying this for 3 years, so.....

Throw a light blanket over your amp and see if it affects the sound at all.
And yeah, Ebay, loads on there

When I first bought my 1969 SFSR it had a Fly screen on it and worked fine did not change the sound, it did look like I was trying to keep the flying bottles from putting holes in the speaker. I did however change it out for a proper grill cloth and it looks so much better
