Hopefully, we've seen the last of that for the season. I know places like Puerto Rico are still in rough shape from that.
It’s getting colder here with single digit centigrades. Snow is knocking at our door and likely will show up this month. Time to hunker down and hibernate after, perhaps, one more stab at packing up some fall leaves, more if lucky because there’s always some stragglers.

Hang in there Puerto Rico. The past is gone, and you are the future.

How has your Fall been, by the way? We haven't hit peak yet, and really only now we're seeing some trees changing colors. I spotted a bunch of reds this morning. Usually, the yellows come in first. It also depends on the weather. I'm wondering with all of the rain we got this year how that will effect it?

Good morning everyone. Not much change in seasons here but it was a beautiful cool morning and nice to have my son home. He was a pretty sick puppy and in the hospital for 6 days but he is much, much better now. I slept for 17 hours, I was so exhausted after the long week but I am back in the saddle again. :D

Snow already? It's not even Halloween yet! :P That kind of reminds me of how they start with the Christmas advertisements about the same time. It won't be long before you hear the sinister sounds of jingle bells in obnoxious car commercials, or do they do that in Canada, too? :P

Well. yes they do. You’re right about Halloween. That’s when we expect it at or about that time. Global warming I guess.

Things are different on the coast. For the most part the weather allows people to remove lighting shortly after Christmas/New Year’s.

Here in the prairies, because of snow and cold, you’ll find lights and decorations up until Easter. I get that, except, aside from celebrating other holiday variations such as the later Ukrainian Christmas, some people are simply lazy as the snow leaves; but, do they have to turn them on after the festive season ?!
Dah!

It's funny that you mentioned Ukrainian Christmas, because my grandparents on my mother's side were immigrants from Russia and Ukraine, and when they were still alive, we used to celebrate two Christmases. The Russian Orthodox calendar is different (Gregorian, I think?) and Christmas winds up in January, instead of the end of December. As far as I know, I have family that still lives over there, but I don't know who they are or ever met them. My mom and my grandparent did visit there, back in 1966, which was when the Cold War was obviously still a big thing going on. They never lived to see Glasnost, or any of that. My grandmother died in 1980 from cancer and my grandfather in 1984, but they were also born in 1897 and 1905.

Good Morning World.

That was interesting, Paul. Until I moved to the prairies, I had met Russian merchant seamen, and Polish Canadians, but I never knew any Ukrainians except that one had married a cousin elsewhere.

Well, now I have Ukrainians in the (not immediate) family on both sides. We recently found a direct Russian (and Irish) relationship on my wife’s side. Her grandfather spoke several languages as an interpreter. So, we too get to take in both Christmas festivities amongst the clan complete with an accordion. It takes a long time each year until we can stop the weight gain. Of course we can party for no particular s(r)eason. Haha!

Our family is so diverse we should probably promote a cookbook or a wine and spirits listing. :P

Unfortunately, my mother more or less did not embrace her Russian heritage and traditions, so pretty much all of that I haven't experienced since my grandparents were alive. I'm talking about the food and to some degree the language. My mom could speak Russian at one time, but she never used it outside of her parents, I guess. My grandmother was trying to teach me the language, but she died when I was probably still 8 years old. It's too bad that I never was able to pick that up. I could probably make some money being an interpreter.
