Good luck with your creepy crawly combat FSB. No vacuum, how about a nice flame thrower?

ROTFL
Great idea, Marky. I know of a tank in front of a nearby Legion that I could put it on.

Heck yeah. That way if the flame thrower doesn't work you've got the big gun as backup.

That's a fantastic idea, Marky. If that doesn't work, Cabelas is just down the street. 8)
Everyone make your day the best ever, and a good good morning to you, Beaubs.

Good Sunday AM. How's everybody doing? It's 90 degrees, 63% humidity, feels like 99 degrees, and a 20% chance of rain. Here anyway.

Well, I slept in on this fine Sunday morning. I won't get to do that much after tomorrow as we get a new cement street, new sidewalks, and new lighting. We're good with a back lane and a driveway, but some others use the road for overnight parking, That will take a good chunk of the summer away, but it's all good as it's been decades long overdue. The only problem is that I might get lost not recognizing the neighbourhood.
That'll take care of the weeds on the boulevard. :P

Well . . . I've slept through raging high seas in storms with destroyer engines beneath me (maybe it rocked me like a baby); but, I can't sleep on a plane (I'm afraid I'll miss the juice, peanuts, and day old bread). So, far the work crew out front hasn't disturbed my beauty rest as the missus is quick to point out.

 So I guess you weren't the Captain if you had engines right under you. I don't think I could sleep through raging high seas but I sleep like a baby on a plane. Did you serve in the depth charge days or missile days or something in between like a Spruance class? I had some fun looking up the ships. :) I glued many models of ships together when I was a kid. My favorites were the old big bad battleships. Man, that was fire power, at least in their time.

I certainly wasn't the Captain. But, I made it to a junior NCO with up to 40 guys under me in my division. I had the helm to steer the following ships and the controls to run or communicate to the engine room. So I had control. The Captain was a big help though.
My job was varied as a bosun (from small arms to everything about boats and crews). The RCN was at WWII's end second in size to the Royal Navy as far as the Commonwealth goes and reputed to be 3rd or 4th largest next to Britain and the U.S. Because of this, like the U.S. many ships were retrofitted to last into the 50s and 60s. Canada specialized then and after the war to hunt and destroy submarines and they are very good at it both with technology and the fact that battle groups are not in her forte'. Tartar and ASROC missiles were introduced just before I left in 1971. Too much info for the Forum but here's some links to the ships I was involved with as a crew member:

Several of these with a larger version as a diving tender with a decompression chamber:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/YAG_training_vessels

Several of these which could run a submarine net across a harbour and more:
http://www.readyayeready.com/ships/ship ... LA%20REINE

This St.Charles made me sea sick on Lake Ontario and it could tow almost anything except a supertanker or, perhaps, a large cruise ship. It ended up with oil rigs off of Newfoundland:
http://tugfaxblogspotcom.blogspot.ca/20 ... s.html?m=1

Took this successful U-Boat killer frigate to the UK:
http://www.readyayeready.com/ships/ship ... ip=SWANSEA

Circumnavigated the last version of this fast (40 knots) destroyer around North America through the Panama Canal:
http://www.readyayeready.com/ships/ship ... p=CRESCENT

My father and I both served on this Destroyer Escort nicknamed a Cadillac because it was anti-nuclear and modern for it's time:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMCS_Mackenzie

My dad put me on the wheel of this cruiser when I was a kid:
http://www.readyayeready.com/ships/ship ... ip=ONTARIO

That's some (but not all) for ya, Marky. That'll teach ya for asking. Sorry for all the detail, but photos are scarce and copyrights cause an issue.
But, I remember making ship models too.

There was always a guitar to be found on the bigger ships.

Thanks for sharing your very interesting career and memories with your father. I appreciate your detailed reply and will be enjoying the sites you posted. :D

You're welcome, Marky. I spent little time on the same ship as my father and, although he was an influence, we were posted to the same vessel at the same time, but he was on leave. So I got to work amongst the same crew, and except for the first day of preset razzing I was treated pretty good as I could hold my own so as not to embarrass him, and I was the youngest of my rank across the country from hard work and not preference. We were both proud of that. Don't wear yourself out with all that info though, Marky. :P

A road crew's front end loader shook the bed and woke me up in time for an annual dental appointment and some fillings where a dental clasp made a dent.
So here's a good morning to all you Lizards. :D
