Good Day!

Happy Wednesday to you too, Marky.

It’s a good day today. How do I know? ‘Cause that’s how I intend to enjoy and share it.
Have a great one Lizards. :D

Missed this on Sunday. That outage is a long time. No electricity or plumbing makes us appreciate the modern utilities more. I hope it didn’t last much longer for Xhefri and others affected.

I recall more than a day outage in the early 60s with a snow and ice storm that buried the whole province of Nova Scotia where power poles were down all over the place, and we dug ourselves into the front door by climbing out a second story window.

We are so lucky in this neighbourhood. Manitoba is full of hydro electric power where surplus (presently 30%) is exported, and, there appears to be constant dam building as we speak. This export translates into low cost on our billing and maintenance in the field. Most areas here do not have blackouts as long as the 18 plus hours that Xhefri experienced, usually an hour or two, if that. Within 6 or 7 hours at the most, in extreme weather, with exceptions in isolated areas up north. Mostly flat terrain and 40 below temperatures seem to be advantages for quick turn around. The grid with our 12 interconnections to other provinces and the U.S. is quite possibly the weakest link. Idaho, incidentally, is reported to provide 70% of it’s own power, importing 30% from the U.S. and/or Canada accordingly.

I watched a documentary on how the grid is antiquated and has risks and how it operates. Pretty interesting stuff, and definitely a reason for concern. Luck definitely comes into play.

It can be beautiful too, Marky as you know. Where I used to live we seldom had no snow until about thirty years ago. The kids go crazy, if and when it happens, and they always find ways on the spur of a moment to slide down the hills. We had snow around us in the winter at higher altitudes, and from the city we had a terrific view of Washington’s big old volcano Mount Baker and the Cascades across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. I loved the snow there where it belongs. Then I could visit it when I wanted to. Besides, snowball fights are more fun on mountain tops. Ask Mrs. FSB about that. :P

Good Morning Lizards!

No matter where you live, I hope you are cozy and safe, and for those without power here in North America i wish a quick return.

Best

G'mornin' - woke up today to hear that an old friend passed (pneumonia)...
...I'm glad we got a chance to get together last month for some chat and laughs.

Very sad...

I’m glad that you recently met up with your friend too, Mike, and I know that your time together was welcomed by your friend. May those good memories be some relief in your loss.

Best
