I found a great deal on an allen accomplice jr amp on reverb. it will arrive today. for the longest time I have wanted a hand-wired 60's fender type amp. the ones I found were too expensive or needed much work. this is blond in color, and 22 or 35 watts depending on tube.

this may be the last amp I ever need. if it is as good as I think it will be, the blackstar may go up for sale

Hi Phreddybee,

I have had an Allen built Sweet Spot for about five years now. It is and will be a keeper. Great tones, built like a tank - I've run both 6V6 and 6L6 though her and I have had hours of enjoyment with both tube compliments. This one is a keeper for me! I hope your Allen is as good as you hope....

thank you beaubs- can't wait to get it. by the time I get home from work tonight, my wife will be asleep, so no playing until tomorrow when I work the late shift.

I'm not sure what power tubes are currently in it. I contacted david from allen amps, and he kindly sent me some info on it. I see that you should use a solid state rectifier with 6l6 tubes, so i'll have to order one in case I need to change.

i'll report my findings tomorrow.

well, when I picked up the amp and got home, the wife was gone for a bit. hurried up and play for a while. so far,so good. it has 6v6 tubes in it, and I think tomorrow ill get some 6l6's to try for more clean headroom. david recommends a solid state rectifies with the 6l6's, so i'll have to find one of those as well.

have you done any tube changes to yours?

I have gone from 6V6 to 6L6 but needed to adjust the bias only per David Allen. I'm not sure why you need a solid state rectifier but I am by no means a electronics guru. i am back to 6V6 now as I like the earlier breakup. My Sweet Spot has plenty of headroom for my taste with 6V6.

Keep me updated!

according to the pdf I received, a solid state rectifier Is recommended for max. power and headroom, and keeps the transformer cool as well.

I looked further into the amp, and it does have 6l6's, but tube rectifier. I am going to get a solid state one to put in-they're not expensive. that rectifier tube does get hot!

Good morning all. It is looking like another hot one today. Playing guitar in the air conditioned comfort is my plan. Have a cool day everyone. 8)

ok- my first couple days with the allen- very impressed. I had a couple new 6l6's sitting around, so I installed them along with a solid state plug in rectifier. set the bias for 30 mv. (boy these rear test points are handy-don't have to remove the chassis for bias).

fired it up and I am so dang happy. I love the clean headroom on this amp, but when I work the raw control along with the volume and master, I can get a nice array of crunch, even at low volume. these 3 controls are very interactive, and just a few small tweaks are all that is needed.

btw, I contacted allen amps for some info on this beauty. david was very kind in sending me the pdf, and answering my questions. I really dig this amp.

Dave Allen?
Really?
Is he at large?
