don't know how many dead fans there are on this forum....

last night I had a chance to see the dead with john mayer. 3 and 1/2 hours of pure hippie pleasure!

I knew john could play, but didn't know how well he would fit in.

from the opening "jack straw" thru "truckin", "estimated prophet" right till the end, I was dancing in my seat. if you are a dead fan, check them out if you get a chance.

I'm glad you enjoyed the show. No doubt it was very good. However, any true Grateful Dead fan knows, that band died with Jerry Garcia. Just like if Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney toured together it wouldn't be The Beatles...

Just conjecture here ... What if ... in the early/mid 1980s that Paul, George, and Ringo toured with Julian Lennon as the Beatles?

sorry if I am going OT

 it's kind of on topic
That would have been cool. Although, Dhani and Julian might work. :D

never attempted to compare them. I have talked to friends who are veterans of a lot of dead shows, and they had a good time. yeah-jerry's gone, but that doesn't mean the music had to die with him

Many years ago I saw Herman's Hermits at a local dance hall sans Peter Noone. You would never had known he was missing. Still , without Herman it was just the Hermits imho. BTW I'm not comparing The Grateful dead to Herman's Hermits, LOL.

great point. we're just lucky they didn't pack it in when pigpen died. he sang a lot of their early songs, but they muddled on anyway. a long strange trip indeed.....

That is impossible ... because the B-52s did not form until 1976.
But you bring up a real great point. The vibe would have been totally different if Napoleon had them.

Oh I am one of them Dead Heads, I saw my first shows Eagles Auditorium, Seattle, Washington, January 26–27, 1968 and I saw my first Dead and Company October 29, 2015 Times Union Center (Knickerbocker Arena) Albany and did gain a lot of respect for John Mayer since, they are not the Grateful Dead (but were they without PigPen, he was there original front man sung most songs and played keys, or again without Keith) but they are a lot of fun and as the song says "The Music Never Stops" Album: Blues for Allah

Saw them in NY and loved the show. Mayer's playing was excellent, but the thing I liked most was that he wasn't copying Garcia, but rather he was playing his own stuff. This, for me, made the band much more of its own entity rather than a cover band.
