If Chrysler had been rightfully allowed to die eight years ago, the Federation's dashing young ensign from Moscow would still be with us.

Should GM have been allowed to go under as well, several years back? Rhetorical question only. I'm not wise enough to sort it all out. Seemingly no one else is either!

This is just another failed attempt to probably skimp on a part that may have only cost a few bucks. Chrysler has a bit of a history of going cheap on some parts.

That electronic shifter is just anoughter example of failed user friendly design. I don't need my tec to be friendly. to quote Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang "Windows 7 is much more user friendly than Vista, I don't like that!'

I don't agree with computerized shifters anyways. It was his fault for buying the piece of sh¡t in the first place.

Once American cars started having European rim mounting, I stopped caring for them.

American cars are sh¡t, European cars are sh¡t, Japanese cars are designed to not break down for a ludicrous amount of mileage, and when they do break, they're designed to be fixed. If you want something that'll run forever and not kill you unless you have a lobotomy and drive, get a Toyota, and not one made past 2002 or so.

Well, I drive a 93 4runner. No airbags to be recalled

Only recall I can think of is the 3vze head gasket, however, mine was redone under recall in 2000. I'm curious to see how Toyota's work holds up.

As much as I think Chrysler's' AND Fiats suck, this one is kind of on Ensign Chekov...make SURE the damn thing is in park before you exit the vehicle...user error on this one...IMHO.

I have a Scion and love it. Back in the 80's I was rebuilding the engine on my Honda, I was griping up a storm about all the sharp edges and tight fits. My girlfriend was Japanese and I told her "your cars are a PIA to fix" she said " Baby when our cars are worn out we through them away! You're the guys who try to fix them"

This statement later proved to be quite true when I was told about the emissions control policy in Japan, when an engine reached a certain mileage it had to be replaced (running well or not) These low milage engines were then sold to the US. I'm not sure if they still do that, but in the past I bought a few and they ran great.

I came the the realisation that cars are disposable and by the time you pay for one it's usually time to get a new one. My 06 Scion notwithstanding lol.

Waaay to soon for speculation...

Do we even know it was an automatic (yes... Millennials, there is a transmission called a Manual that you actually have to move yourself to select a gear...).

All my cars are Manual, and unless on an incline, I park in Neutral (not in gear), relying on the P-Brake to keep the car stationary. This is contrary to 'common' wisdom, but the reason is if someone hits or bumps the car from behind, the entire drivetrain (all very expensive) is spared from the jolt. Of course, on an incline, I park in 1st gear to add the load of the drivetrain in holding the car in-place.

If a Manual and the Parking Brake was set w/ the tranny in Neutral, it's not unheard of that the P-Brake can let loose.

The P-Brake Shoes, if applied when warm, may engage sufficiently to hold the car in-place. But once they cool and contract, they can lose contact w/ the Drum/Disc Hat and provide no resistance, allowing the car to roll.

So, B4 all the hating of corporate America, let's just see how this evolves.

In any case, R.I.P. Chechov... Thanks for the role you assumed so well...

Cheers!

Did you skip class they day they taught fundamental internet research in Basic Computing 101?

All it takes is about five minutes with the search engine of your choice......

I wouldn't wipe my rectal orifice on a Fiat product.

Well, mine is Laotian, so she just gets mad that I'm putting money into my truck instead of her

Yea, I believe they still sell the engines to the US. Personally, if I ever changed the engine out of my truck, I'd put a 2JZ I6. It'd cost at least 10k for the swap, but I'm only in the truck for $1800, so who cares?

But, I still have a little ways to go. If you wanna see my little fix up project, look for my thread "New Project"

I bought a few of those used engines, both for Toyota trucks, I built a few as well. They are work horses.

Putting a vehicle in "park" is no guarantee the thing will not roll away. If you've ever seen the mechanism that "locks" an automatic transmission, you'd never trust it again. I set my park brake every single time I park. Flat ground as well as sloped. Contrary to popular belief the park brake is for parking and it is not an emergency brake. To the best of my knowledge there has never been a such thing as an emergency brake.

Case in point:
My first car was a '65 Chevelle.
Parked in a "flat" shopping mall parking lot.
Came out to find the car had rolled into a lamp standard.
Dented bumper.
Transmission shop showed me the worn out part.
A light piece of tin with a notch in it that a dog fits into.
Flimsy as hell.
I'm told all automatics employ the same method to this day.
That was an expensive lesson.

All that said, I really liked the young man's acting. Sad to see him go so young.
I notice he was 27.
It gets me wondering.
