congrats, and good luck! i've tried to use a wah wah a couple times, but in the end my friend did the wah wah for me while I played, meanwhile, he was playing his bass! haha that took concentration...on his part! :P

Work with a metronome to get your playing and your wah-ing together. It took me a long time to get my leg(s) independent from my arms. It's kind of like being a drummer.

the most important thing aobut using a wah, is make ur wah foot move indepently from your hands. You may be playing slow, and want a fast wha effect, or vice versa.

thx for all the replys... il be sure to practice keep my hand and foot movements independant... i dont find it difficult to do, like slow, rocking wah while playing a fast bluesy run, but trying to go all low down and with a fast wah... thats a hell of a greater challenge  oh yea, does any of you know anything to get me started on, like, funky rythm playing? :)

Lets face it, you gotta master the intro to Voodoo Child, and once you do that, you have all it takes to use the wah effectively...

And with a nice clean sound, a wah, and a shot of whiskey, you can get your funk on...

Have fun...

I used a Cry Baby Wah Wah pedal... way back when. It was tough to get used to but once you found a style of playing with it, it was great.

There are a variety of ways to use a wah. Sometimes in a subtle way, for example, the "live" recording intro of "Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad" from one of Clapton's (Derek & The Dominoes).

Of course there are many not so subtle ways to use it as well. My first pedal was a cry baby made by Thomas Organ. I recall the fasel inductor was what gave it an edge over other pedals.

There is a nice and easy mod to add a fasel inductor for that pedal which costs about $18. If you feel adventurous, here is how it's done -
