If nothing else it's a wake-up call for me to ignore retards who would deny me the rights bestowed by my creator and codified by the Constitution of the United States Of America.

What most seem to overlook, is that terrorists (any kind) will rarely step into a room packed with citizens who can SHOOT BACK.

Are you suggesting that club goers be allowed to carry firearms into the club?

I think the point is ... this guy was no American. And AFAIK, pressure cookers and sheet metal screws are not banned in America or any other country for that matter. Are they?

Alex, ckmckool might be referring to soft targets. Where I used to hangout a terrorist couldn't have made it past the first security let alone down the hall to coat check.

But he was an American citizen. Also, I wasn't talking about pressure cookers or sheet metal screws. Where'd you get that from what I wrote? He had an AR 15 style rifle.

Politicians are quick to make hay with this tragedy with the aim of recinding our gun rights, so that only the GOVERNMENT has guns.
This is a slippery (s)lope.
Next they will be coming for our strats.

Rollie,
cmckool may be referring to soft targets or he may not. You can't really tell from what he wrote. My understanding from news reports is that there was an armed off duty police officer at the club who confronted him, but failed to neutralize him and he then barricaded himself in a washroom with some hostages.
Perhaps if everyone in the club was packing heat, things would have turned out differently, but I doubt it.

I think you have a valid point here, SBLS. But, even though recent shootings have been indoors, it is found here and elsewhere that violence (whether knife or gun) can and will occur outside the clubs as well. Innocents are often caught in crossfire. Fortunately, the number count is usually smaller. Still, those shootings from one or both sides often injure or kill those with and without weapons, and more armament doesn't appear to help in this scenario. Professionals are trained to know who, where, and when to and when not to take the shot and they have some backup should the guess be wrong. Besides, a hand gun, although an option with some luck, is little match for an assault rifle. Circumstances will differ, however. Tough call. Damned if you do, and damned if you don't. Time to live in a bubble.

I see Alex. At best it is a surprise not many would be ready for.
There are only a handful of towns left where everyone carries. You won't find any terrorists in those towns.

Soft targets indeed was my point.
One police officer in a crowded club (probably himself ducking for cover until calling in the calvary) doesn't equate to much of a defense.
If the terrorist thought a few more guns would face him I suspect this would not have occurred.
Same thing for a movie house, school, church, ect.

All my condoleances to the victims' families.

Reuters confirms that a couple of French police officers has been killed during a knife attack claimed by ISIS.

The 25-years old Moroccan-born alleged terrorist Larossi Abballa had posted a video on Facebook claiming responsibility for the murder.
