Oh my Rod the Mod as he was know in the days before Jeff Becks Truth album, I liked him then and liked "A Nod's As Good As a Wink... to a Blind Horses" Ronnie Wood did some tasty playing, Every Picture Tells a Story was good, I think I liked his early stuff much better than his later stuff. All in all he had a good career, I guess if the Queen want to knight him so be it. Though I don't suppose we will ever see him dawn a Suit of Armor, get on a horse, and have a joust

He's not Sir Rod (or Sir Roderick). He became a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and would have had to become a knight, or receive a peerage or be made a baronet in order to earn the title "Sir".

What it does allow him is to put C.B.E. after his name, and sit closer to the front in some churches. But he's still a Mister, not a Sir.

According to the article posted by Arjay and others I've seen he was, in fact, knighted. And of course he was always a snappy dresser!

Roderick David Stewart is on the 2016 Queen's Birthday Honours List for knighthood as Knight Bachelor, which is the lowest level of knighthood.

CBE and MBE/OBE recipients are still MISTERS. Knights are SIRS, even Knights Bachelor. Rod Stewart was already a CBE having received that honor in 2007.

Stewart is quoted as saying he was always puzzled why the CBE in 2007 instead of knighthood then. The answer is that the difference between an OBE, CBE and full blown knighthood is frequently political. It could have been something trivial in Stewart's case like his passion for the Glassgow Celtics football team or even subscribing to the wrong newspaper.

It is not unheard of for someone to get a CBE, MBE/OBE and then later a knighthood as was the case for Sir Rod, but for those not "correctly" aligned politically a CBE or OBE is frequently as high an honor as they are likely to receive.

Any of these honors plus about two pounds will buy you a cup of Starbucks coffee anywhere. In other words, it is just an honor. Nice to have, but not exactly a lottery win.
