R.I.P. Gordie Howe !

A Hockey Legend, winning 4 Stanley Cups and 6 Hart Memorial Trophies (League MVP), Howe spent a remarkable 34 years playing at the Pro level. His career 801 Goals was a record which stood until broken by Wayne Gretzky, who left hockey with a total of 894 pushing Gordie to 2nd all-time where he remains by some 50+ goals.

He was so idolized by Wayne Gretzky as a kid, that when Gretzky turned Pro, he selected the number 99 as a tribute to his idol (Gordie wore # 9).

Failing health the past 2 yrs. finally took him from us.

Condolences to his Family and many, many friends.

Cheers!

One of the real people for up coming kids to look up to, as a decent human being. And to emulate. RIP Gordie Howe. "Mr. Hockey."

Gordon Howe. An original, and one class act. When I was fourteen Gordie's brother was a neighbour of ours and I got to meet him when he and his family came on vacation. What a thrill. Later in life I got to work freelance camera for Metromedia WTCN Minneapolis. It was for WHA's Houston Aeros because the club covered every game for their fans in Texas.

Watching Gordie play with sons Mark and Marty was historical, and a sight to see. The younger players on the opposing team(s) respected Gordie and they didn't want to play too hard with him at his age. After the closeup moves I saw with Mr. Hockey's action in the corners, it wasn't hard to see why the kids on the other team soon changed their mind. Bobby Hull and Gordie pranked each other when playing, and the best was when Howe lifted Hull's toupe off his head, skating with it on the end of his stick, causing Bobby to skate off to the locker room for a replacement.
Today I saw an interview that showed his dislike for the restructuring of hockey rules, and yet Gretsky and he must have enjoyed a great many talks on this and other related matter. He will be missed.

Condolences to family and friends.

We're witnessing the end of an era.
Lots of greats going.
Music, sports, etc.
RIP Gordie

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
