Here is another classic, "Pipeline" by The Chantays. They performed the song on the Lawrence Welk Show!? My grandmother used to watch Lawrence Welk. I don't ever remember seeing a rock band on the show . . . ever!

One more, "Perfidia" by The Ventures. This song was done by Glen Miller, Linda Ronstadt, Andrea Bocelli, Nat "King" Cole among many others.

It's hard to imagine surf music without Fender instruments.

Last one, "Margaya" (sometimes "Mar Gaya") by the aptly named Fender IV. It has a spaghetti western sound to it.

Steve, you are so right about Perfidia being a huge hit throughout the time. My Dad was surprised when, in the 60s, I told him that it was a standard to be learned by bands and played at just about every high school dance along with many of the Surf songs here. Well, maybe not everywhere, but certainly on the coasts. I think the 60s began a trend of partial isolation of music depending on your geography and culture. Kinda strange considering I found Country Western and R&B fans in England right alongside the Mods and the Rockers?

This was an early well known '61 Surf song:

This hit the stage as well in '64.

This one's a little different. A New York Surf-Punk band from '99. I just discovered it and I dig it. Hope you do too. 8)

60s Belgium style (where they have a pretty substantial rock history and presence of their own):

Back to this side of the pond:
Joey (Michno) Covington killed this on the drums back in '64 when live drums (rather than machines and sampling) were the only game in town (here the town is Philly). This is sorta like Wipeout single stroke rolls on steroids. The axe playing is rockin'.

Laika and the Cosmonauts, a Finnish (not Russian as I've heard people say) surf band, started up in the 1980's and broke up just a few years ago. Here is "Surfs You Right" . . .

Enjoyed Laika and The Cosmonauts, Steve. Truly great topic, Rollie.

The next video, perhaps not the best. Still, I think it earned a spot here since it's from Cambodia.
