Paco de Lucia died two years ago.

That's to bad , he was quite a player, one of my first serious guitar albums
was Al Di Meola,John Mclaughlin, and Paco De Lucia.

Perhaps start a new topic on Favorite dead guitarists...there are many and not all are Grateful.

So for me I am love each of the guitarists listed above, but my list might look a little different. I based my list on their amount of influence on my playing and not whether I think that they are the best.

1. Andy Summers
2. Eric Clapton
3. Stacy Mitchhart
He comes on stage and starts playing at about 2 minutes into the video.
4. SRV
5. Albert King
6. Buddy Guy
7. Robert Cray
8. Hubert Sumlin

Man, this list could go on for a bit, but this is my list of top 8.

Yes, it was a shame, he left us way too early. He did more than anyone in bringing flamenco guitar, or a least nuevo flamenco to people world wide.
I dabble a bit in flamenco toque myself (I'm almost up to "merely terrible" after 3 years of practice), and can't say it isn't at least in part because of Paco de Lucia.

For pure flamenco chops, I'm not sure anyone beat old Sabicas, though. That right hand work is just astonishing - we might think that Mark Knopfler and Uli Jon Roth are masters of finger picking, but... this:

Flamenco guitarists have something in common with electric guitar players, in that a lot of them have no theoretical or school background at all. And unlike classical guitar players, no-one told them that they're only supposed to use three or four fingers for picking, so they use all five.

Why Brian May isn't mentioned is beyond me.

I agree; he's a great guitarist. Since this is an individual list (and not a comprehensive one) then you'll need to male that happen.

It's such a subjective question. I could certainly have put lots of guitarist on mine, but I chose the ones who influenced me. For instance, Albert King is not the most technically proficient guitarist compared to others, but he has a quality I love.

Richard Thompson - his incredible chops and taste are evident in everything he has done. And he plays Fender Strats mostly. I've seen him live many times; last time with his Electric Trio - the encore began with a cover of "Hey Joe" that had me muttering "Jimi who?" under my breath.

Albert Lee
Brad Paisley
Keith Urban
Steve Wariner

I was not flaming your Randy Hansen choice. I have seen him a couple of times (doing both the Hendrix thing and his solo stuff). I was just never incredibly impressed. That is all..

As for my five personal favorites? Off the top of my head...
Buck Dharma
Pat Travers
Alex Lifeson
Steve Howe
the classic Thin Lizzy duo (Scott Gorham/Brian Robertson)

Not all the greats are front and center stage. After all, some of the worse are also center stage. I'll endorse G. E. Smith who plays the frontman and the backup. 8) FSB

It's all very subjective.

Has anyone ever checked out Michael Casswell or the guitarist from the band "Big Wreck"?

Absolutely, Paris. Subjective when it comes to best, and even more when it comes to fave. :D
