J.D. Loudermilk

John D. Loudermilk, Jr. (March 31, 1934 – September 21, 2016) was an American singer and songwriter. Although he had his own recording career during the 1950s and 1960s, he was primarily known as a songwriter. His best-known songs include "Indian Reservation", a 1971 #1 hit for Paul Revere & the Raiders; "Tobacco Road", a 1964 top 20 hit for The Nashville Teens; "This Little Bird" a UK #6 for Marianne Faithfull in 1965, and "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye", a top ten hit in 1967 for The Casinos.

Thanks, for letting us in on the passing of John D. , Mike. My father and I absolutely loved Loudermilk's work, and there were many gems to choose from. His own 1961 vocal Language of Love got plenty of airtime in my neighbourhood. As you pointed out with his collection of hits, he could write it all. A true talent.

This simple instrumental of his isn't too shabby either:

Great memories. Great guy.
RIP JDL

Very cool find FSB! No, not too shabby at all.

Also, sad to hear of Dan Smith's passing at age 70.

Thanks, for the notification on this one, Mike. Quite the man. Another of the lesser known heroes of the music trade who made a difference.

Peace be with you Mr. Bateman.

I was listening to the Nashville Teens with "Tobacco Road" the other day. Sad to hear of his passing. :(

Not really known for being a musician, but rest easy, Billm :(

http://billmaudio.com/wp/

I learned a lot from reading his "stuff." Bill had been courageously fighting a glioblastoma multiforme tumor for a while now, and eventually succumbed to it.

It is sad to know the musicians who enriched our lives with good music pass on. My best friend passed away almost 2 years ago. He was a great musician and his genre of music was Americana. His name was Steed Kettles and he played in a band called Liberty Jones based out of Atlanta. Before Steed passed away, he and his buddy Jeff Eno collaborated with some work and put out "The Jake Leg Chronicles". I would say it is a cross between real roots country and honest southern rock.

Steed passed Away in 2015. At his funeral service, his band mates from Liberty Jones played a song by Billy Joe Shaver called "Live Forever"

I miss and love my buddy Steed. He was kind, humble and gave me some great advice about guitar. I would do anything to bring those moments back.

Considering this post is about musicians that have passed on, the lyrics to "Live Forever" makes me think that musicians leave behind their music for all of us. Therefore, they are alive through all of us.

I'm beginning to hate this thread....I'm in that age group.
But I can't stop viewing it. :(

It's always cheerful to think of famous artists no longer with us, and how much younger than you they were when they died, and how much they had accomplished by that time.

Or, as Tom Lehrer put it, back when he was only 37, "It's a sobering thought that when Mozart was my age, he had been dead for two years".
