Devastated !!

R.I.P. Pierre !!

Thanks for the Music !!

I met Pete on my first trip to New Orleans back in 1974 when I was there a week before Mardi Gras at his club - Pete’s Place. Being the week before, the club was slow, Pete came and sat next to me at the break and we started chatting. I told him I was there for Carnival, but wanted to get in early to discover the city. He gave me passes to come back (no cover) and I did.

A few days before Carnival, I was in there and Pete invited me to be in his 2nd Line - the Half-Fast Walking Club ! On Mardi Gras, everyone met Uptown at Pascuale's for early brunch and then marched down St. Charles into the quarter, ending at his club. Pretty heady stuff marching behind Pete Fountain and Al Hirt all the way to the French Quarter !!

I was there the weekend Pete opened his club in the Riverside Hilton and last saw him play at JazzFest in 2013.

We'll miss him. He's as much a New Orleans institution as Satchmo himself... !!

cheers!

Singer Glenn Yarbrough has passed away at the age of 86. He was born Glenn Robertson Yarbrough on January 12, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI. He was raised in New York City.

In college he roomed with Jac Holzman who would go on to found Elektra Records. Glenn was one of Elektra Records' first artists, and he was one of the first singers to record the traditional "The House of the Rising Sun."

He was the lead singer for The Limeliters from 1959-1963.

Sad to learn of this news. Glenn was a fine man and a talent to be sure. I was fortunate to work with him while directing his live performance for A Variety Club Telethon which he attended shortly after sailing the World with his family. He had no rehearsal for camera blocking or with the big band, and still his performance went smooth as silk. A true professional.

Condolences to friends and family.

Thanks, for the heads up, Mike.

Ruby Wilson, The Queen of Beale Street will be laid to rest today in Memphis. After the 11am funeral, the processional will head down Beale Street and make one last stop at B.B. Kings: http://bit.ly/2bBIQH6
