Peter Traynor, founder of Traynor Amps died over the weekend. I just seen this on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TraynorAmps/ I'm not sure if it's posted anywhere else online. I never owned one of his amps, but have played through some and liked what I've heard. They seem to be pretty well built, too. RIP, Peter. :(

R.I.P. Peter Traynor

Those old Traynor bass heads are major. I used a friends 200 watt Traynor head a few times in 2009 and after 40 years it still sounded great.

Back in the day, Traynor built some damn solid gear. Their tube bass rigs were among the best around, rivaling Sunn and Ampeg.

RIP, Peter......you left a lasting legacy.

Thanks, for the heads up on this, Paul.

Traynor amps, starting with bass amps in 1963, guitar amps in 1966, were standard affair for many bands here in Canada. They were a good looking lesser expensive amp that used Fender and Marshall as their examples and, as mentioned earlier, yes durability was a factor. These amps soon found their way from high school auditoriums to the concert stage.

Peter Traynor was a repairman at the Toronto store that Jack Long (of today's Long & McQuade, Canada's largest music chain) owned. With Peter producing and Jack distributing a business arrangement was made in 1963, and except for a brief period, Traynor continued to produce amps, both tube and solid state, and they are available today.

Thanks, Peter.
Peace be with you.

It's interesting to compare the engineering philosophies of those then-contemporary designers. Whereas Fender used the 6L6GC, Sunn picked the 6550, and Ampeg hitched their wagon to the 7027A, Traynor chose a different tack with the 6CA7. All were (and are) great tubes but for whatever reasons -- and there are several -- the 6L6GC would ultimately emerge as the most prolific power tube.

RIP Peter Traynor. I had one of his early heads, and they were right up there with a Bassman head. A great amp.

Wasn't that your first amp, you were saying one time when we were talking about Traynors?

I always thought they sounded "thumpier" and louder than the Bassman. And Traynor's 6 x 10 cab absolutely rawked!

I had an acquaintance who had a Traynor bass amp of some sort that he used as a guitar amp...sounded good, albeit loud and very clean without any dirtboxes attached.

While his amp didn't sound like one, he compared it to a Peavey--a reasonably priced alternative that was built like a tank...It seems like an apt description.

RIP, Mr. Traynor. Thank you for your contributions!

The Traynor was my first amp head. Before that I used a Silvertone.

I used my Traynor with a home built 2X12 cab. It did have the higher power sound over the Bassman.

It was something like a Bass Mate something. I don't remember. It was a about a 150 watt head.

Here's a list of some of the vintage ones. Maybe it's listed in there. http://www.0rigami.com/vb/models.html

It was the YBA-1A Bass-Master Mark II 80-100 watts, tube head, 1969. A darn nice head.
