For about a year I've had a nice Epiphone Sheraton II that was filling the Thinline semi acoustic gap in my Guitar collection. Then earlier this year I bought a 2010 Gibson ES-335 Dot Reissue. The Sheraton has since remained on the wall gathering dust. Last Friday I traded the Sheraton for a made in Mexico Fender Thinline Telecaster. Then without even having plugged in the Telecaster, I traded it for this, a Gibson Les Paul Studio 60s Reissue with P90s. I've been looking for a Les Paul with P90s for quite some time but the one I always wanted, a 56 Reissue is way out of my budget.

When the guy contacted my about wanting to do the trade, I had hoped it was a Goldtop but then he told me it was white. I was disappointed. Since he lived close to me I went over to try it out anyway. Even when I saw it in the flesh I wasn't bowled over. Then I played it. The P90s snarled with some crunch and it sounded superb through a clean channel. Bugger! Now I wanted it so I did the deal and got a hardcase in the as well. It has a very thin road worn satin nitro finish. My wife was surprised by the colour and wasn't sure she liked it. Last night I put it on a chair opposite me and the more I looked at it the more I liked it. The cream hardware is weird and I am going to put a Bigsby B7 vibrato on it.

But now I'm thinking......

Get it refinished as a Goldtop with natural back and sides including the back of the neck.....

I'll spend more time with it and see what my gut tells me.

The bottom line is that in the course of five days I've traded my way from an Epiphone to a Gibson without spending a cent and that is a good thing in my book. :)

nice, those photos border on guitar pr0n but it's a sweet looking LP.
I'm a Fender and a Gibson owner but I'm a guitar player, my loyalty is with the instrument, and not being a cheerleader for one brand or the other.

p90s are definitely a different experience!

not sure about your refinishing idea, something you'd do yourself? or have someone do that?

Wondering how you plan to fit the bigsby? you thinking about adding that via a Vibramate kit? (no modifications required with a vibramate).

The refinishing work would be done by a pro I know, not something I could do myself.

Definitely going to go with a Vibramate since I won't have to butcher the Guitar to put it on. :)

gotchya!

a gold top studio w/P0s and a B7 would be insanely cool,

keep us posted on the progress!

I added a B7 via a vibrate to my 95 Wine Red Standard... it was very easy, and it works and looks great.

Congrats Torresfan! EVERY guitarist needs to have a guitar with P-90s in it!

Are you going to refinish the entire guitar in gold or or just make it a true goldtop and then leave the back in natural? Also, how much does it weigh? I have always found the white guitars from Gibson, to be heavier than all other colors.

Or at least try them out. P-90s have a stronger midrange and bass response than typical single-coils. Depending on the music, that could be just what the doctor ordered.

Personally I prefer the soapbar P-90s (like on the above LP Studio), as the dog-ear metal covered ones often are rather microphonic.

LPs are great guitars, although personally, I tend to flip the top switch by accident as I move my right hand up for tapping or whatnot. I like the SG placement better for that reason.
But playable, most certainly. They feel good. Sound good. Look good.
Congrats.

I'm just going to have to top painted gold with the back and sides of the body and the back of the neck natural. We're trying to work out how we can have a nice clear division between the top in gold and the sides in natural without using binding.

As Les Pauls go, this is the lightest I've had although I haven't weighed it yet.

Looking at this crazy thing last night, I think I'm really starting to like the cream on white look.

Is this wrong? :)
