One of my in-laws used to model.

She was the "Before" picture.

I used to model, with my bass anyway.

I had a Line 6 with all these "wonderful" sounds that I could manipulate. My thinking was that in a 3 piece group I could had some needed depth to the overall sound.

But sadly, over time, I just came to realize a couple things....
1-despite spending loads of time tinkering for all the right presets, no one really heard the difference other than me
2-that's not my job, it's 3 piece so I need to be rock solid on the "groove" while our guitarist plays a solo
3-the damn amp was ungodly heavy, it started at 96 lbs and then had to go over 100 when I added casters to make it more moveable. And the handles were on the side so that guaranteed hauling it down the stairs at 3 am after a gig meant not being able to hold onto a railing if you slipped.

So after all that, the Line 6 is gone and I have an awesome new Fender Rumble 500. Moves a ton of air and adds a great amount of thump. And at only 36 lbs and a top mounted handle I should never follow it down the stairs headfirst at 3 am.

Just some drivel from a former model-er.

I remember those heavy early model Line 6 amps. I didn't have one but a friend did. He used to carry it up stairs to his apartment -yeesh.

Now my Mustang III modeling amp is suspiciously light. It certainly makes gigging easier when you don't break your hands carrying your amp around.

All the nay-sayers don't bother me. I know this is new territory and I know it's going to keep advancing. This "new" Rembrandt was painted by a computer:

I've used a Line 6 POD for recording for many years. I ignore the labels of what it's supposed to be modeling, and just tweak it until I find the right tone for the song.

My drummer/producer/multi-instrumentalist uses it in much the same fashion, for guitar, bass and even keyboards. It works pretty well in this capacity, and makes overdubbing and recording more than one track at a time (i.e., drums and guitar, vocals and keyboards, etc.) easier to edit or re-do.

I tried for a couple of years to use it live--for a while I tried to use it as an effects processor into my amp, and later I tried plugging it directly into the PA, especially when playing a lot of harp (to prevent feedback), but it just didn't sound as good in that capacity. All of its digital quirks made the sound get lost in the mix, or if the sound guy cranked up that channel, it would often be overwhelming in volume but underwhelming in organic sound--it always sounded mushy and processed.

I still use it for recording, but rarely (if ever) use any of its on-board effects, (besides my drummer occasionally using the rotary effect with the keyboard for some faux-Hammond-and-Leslie Cabinet licks and lines).

Maybe it was the on-board effects that made it sound fake and processed?

Either way, I ceased using it live years ago, and don't have any plans to go back to using it that way again.
